When building a lather in a mug or bowl do you pump your brush up and down to get more air into the lather? I have used this technique recently with some success. Just wondering if others use this technique.
I abuse the Semogue Boars with hard and soft soaps when face and bowl lathering. However, I am gentler with the badgers and creams...just does not require as much action for lather.
Yep, swirl a few times, them pump a couple of times while swiping, then swirl again while pumping. Works great to make a lather in a coconut lather bowl.
I don't, but I use a 5" suribachi bowl to develop the lather in. I'm afraid if I pumped, I would destroy the brush. Edit: this is what the bottom of my lather bowl looks like: 5 second lather, guaranteed.
Rather, I pump my fist in the air and let out a scream of victory whenever I successfully manage to get good lather from my MWF puck. My family isn't pleased at all when this happens...
"Pumping" means pushing the brush in an up and down motion as opposed to only a swirling, circular motion. The idea is that pumping will inject air into the lather.
I find it does make a difference especially with those soaps or creams that seem to take a bit of extra effort to build a solid lather. With soaps or creams that quickly build a full and thick lather with minimal effort the pump action is likely not necessary.
