That was likely me. I used a chemical solution on my brass General to speed up the process.

Heck yes. Anytime. I quite enjoyed our introduction. But don't thank me yet, your 30DC brethren know not what you've done...yet!

Do so throw a Feather in the Bird...haha...see what I did there? Make my own self laugh at times. That combo certainly narrows the forgiveness of the razor.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Well my Bonus Round produced no winner but I kind of expected that. Yeah, it was a difficult question and if you weren't around in the beginning you likely wouldn't have a chance. Apparently those still around had no chance either. :happy102:

When the 30 Day Thread started it was only for the 30 Day Rule. The Focus wasn't yet invented. The idea was that a bunch of newbies, or as many as Chris could tempt anyway, would use the Rule to work on technique. The inspiration came from one GDCarrington who was a member and kind of the technique guru back then. Chris had done a month on a Rule and loved it so he spread the love around. Once the first month got started it quickly became obvious that some of the veterans wanted to join in but felt overly restricted on the "one razor, one blade, one soap, one brush" requirement of a rule. So, to allow for more to join in and give them all options as appropriate, Chris posted the following:

"I will be doing a 30 Day Rule with one brush, one soap, and one razor. I think I will shorthand this as (BSG) for Burma Shave Guidelines. I encourage most newer shavers to go this route, as it isolates the razor conditions and makes it easier to isolate issues. I will be learning a slim adjustable as if I were brand new.

I was thinking that those doing hybrid/adapted exercises might use (HBSG) for Hybrid Burma Shave Guidelines. This notation is probably for vet shavers with a technique issue on a razor, or a new razor to learn. Other variables like soap and brush matter much less to a very experienced shaver. Both types of exercises are very welcome and very much encouraged here.

I am going to use this notation on this thread (and pay homage to the original inspiration, "Burma Shave" GDCarrington). He changed the way I approached learning to shave DE, and greatly accelerated my happiness! So the top of my post will carry a BSG and which day I am on, and the run dates."

For those who don't remember GDCarrington, he was famous for welcoming every new member to TSD with a Burma Shave limerick. His CT was Burma Shave. We ran with the BSG/HBSG designation for the first month and GD then revised the Rule to include the Focus. That took care of any need for acronyms. Or, to put it in easy to understand terms - BSG=Rule. HBSG=Focus.

And that's today's free history lesson from the 30 Day Thread!

That could be it. I'm getting A LITTLE bit by this time, but it doesn't come close to that of Stoylin, Rte 66, Local Gent, Chiseled.. I really need to get this soap in action.

Are you loading enough soap? It don't rank it quite in the category of Stirling or Route 66, but it is pretty good soap, IMO. Load it like it owes you money!

I love that brush handle every time you show it, Andrew. The shape is just a classic.
Great pic, John. Matching the razor to the shave stick to the brush is pretty amazing.
Sounds like that razor is a fantastic addition, Rick. Congrats!

Pre-shave: hot shower & Nivea Men Sensitive Face Wash
    Brush: Barburys synthetic
    Soap: Stirling Noir
    Razor: Gem Micromatic OC
Blade: Gem by Personna Stainless (1)
Post-shave: Assured WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PS Balm, Pinaud Clubman AS Lotion

As I mentioned I'm going to give attention this month to my SE razors. Initially, I wanted to use my Gem Micromatic Clug-Pruf but I couldn't find it. I think I know where I stashed it, but I didn't want to dig around for it, but the OC was handy and I used it. I loaded it with a "Gem by Personna" SS blade and whipped up some lather for my face. The first pass was sweet. The second pass was just as sweet. My cheeks were smooth. My neck needed some touch-up. I really stretched the skin on the left side of my neck and the clean-up pass was sweet. The left side of my neck felt smooth. The initial clean-up pass on the right side of my neck was fine, but it wasn't smooth. I decided to do another clean-up pass on the right side only. I stretched that skin and cleaned off the lather with that open comb razor.

The skin on the right side finally felt smooth. But then I felt irritation, and then I saw the blood. Crap! I had several weepers and nicks on that side of the neck. I know exactly what I did. I chased the baby. I could have stopped and been satisfied with a nice comfortable shave after the first clean-up, but I got greedy. Just another learning experience.

    Happy shaves everyone!
