I'm a big jade collector / dealer (smuggler) Used to spend quite some time around the Thai / Burmese border town called Mae Sot From my contacts there I can still source real untreated rough jadeite at cut throat prices Here is a solid Jade handled brush....
It would be possible. But real Jade is actually a very very hard material It rates about a #7 out of a scale of 1-10 on the Mohs Scale (diamond being a 10) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale_of_mineral_hardness This makes it very difficult to work with, sort of like stainless steel Threading the top to fit a screw tap would need to be fitted with a plug and getting those tolerances correct would be work indeed...... I'm not fond of slick handles on razors either so wonder how a knurling pattern would look on Jade ?
What about a thin stainless spindle upon which you would slide a hollow jade cyllinder outer handle? That way you wouldn't need to thread the jade directly or indirectly. I only suggested it because you have access to this great unique material and it would be wild to be able to incorporate it into a razor model. Cheers, Colin
Would also be a viable design option , but would take plenty of labor to complete. I have no idea of the cost until I actually make one.
Very nice brush handle. Personally I wouldn't bother making a razor handle out of it. Stone handles are more Elite Razor's thing.
Just received some high quality badger knots from http://www.thegoldennib.com/ Fantastic place to do business with
That looks amazing. How tough is that stuff? I would be so afraid of dropping it on my tile. +1 on thegoldennib. Tony is great to work with.
