Thank you for bringing us the information, and following up with Chris at AoS. This could lead to a revamp of the product line?
If I remember correctly the pre-war techs were all brass, and starting in the 50's they switched to a Zamak top cap.
I believe so. He said if the release goes well, there are plans to re release more models. Including the possibility of a Fatboy.
I am only mildly interested because I currently shave with three different Techs from three different decades and two Super Speeds from different decades and two different Gillette Adjustable razors. If it does happen, I doubt the new DEs will be better. Dave
I would love to have a "New" Gillette New OC and I also wouldn't mind having a Slim that didn't look like a POS!
Let's not forget the main objective of any business is to make money. Its not about serving the whims and desires of those of us in a small wet shaving community. If Gillette thinks they can make money by a reissue of a Tech...then we will likely see this come to fruition. However, they will have to compete with a plethora of other DE razor makers...many of whom produce a fine product at a reasonable cost. From a marketing point of view they will have the Gillette name to play on, but it will still have to be a quality product to get those of us with an interest to put our money on the table.
Okay, that was probably a bad example. It just popped into my head because 25 years ago when I was in college, I worked at a Pizza Hut, and other than we both sold Pepsi products, the two seperate companies had nothing to with each other in any way shape or form. It would even go against my argument, except that I will stand by my premise that just because a giant corporation owns multiple companies does not mean they have anything to with each other in the least. If AOS was a subsidiary of Gillette, it would be a different story. (At least in terms of my point.) I guess what I was trying to say, is that too many times to count I have read posts where people say that Gillette owns AOS, and that is not the case. Anyway, sorry for the bad analogy.
I don't think it would. Overpriced modernTechs shouldn't cause the price of vintage techs to go up, and I can't see them selling a Fatboy for less than $100, so that wouldn't affect vintage prices on those either.
It's all good. I thought it was funny. I just want Gillette to mass produce the Bottom Dials, Red Dots, Double Rings, and Toggles, so I can finally get one.
I just chatted with the AoS representative from the Mall of America. They said the Gillette Tech will be produced and released for retail sale in November 2016. They said the price point has not been disclosed yet. Also, based on how the sales of the Tech go, the next razor to be released will be the Fatboy. Just thought I would let everyone know what I found out. Take it for what it's worth I guess.
Nah, still have to see it to believe it, but seems to have paper trail to give it better than 50/50 chance....
The fellow I talked to said there was already production material in his store that had a date of May on it. He also did mention the Fatboy as a future model.
