I recently purchased an antique Merkur on Ebay thinking it was a full-sized safety razor, but when it got here, it was a diminutive 7/8" wide. It is not the beard trimmer, because the head does not taper. It is just small, like a travel razor. I have a beard, and could still use it, but where do you get blades for it? I can't seem to find any. As an alternative, could I replace the small head with a regular Merkur head? If anyone can shed light on this dilema, I would really appreciate it.
Could you post a photo of the razor itself, and any writing/makers mark on the razor? It might help us identify the razor so we can figure out what blades it takes.
Ooops. Sorry. Here are some images.... The dimensions are: Handle - 3.28" long, Head - 7/8" wide, and 7/8" long. Anyone know where I can find blades for this little guy? I would also like to know the Model # and dates of production . I can't find anything about it online. The head from my 1944 Gillette Gold Tone fits the handle like it was made for it, so I am guessing it is a standard thread and size. I may try to get a normal=sized Merkur head to put on it if I can't find blades for this one. I hate to because it will mess up the collector value, but I will still keep the original head.
Well, the images won't post, but the picture of the Corn razor looks identicle. Where can you find blades for these?
Found em! $6.95 for a 10-pack..., not bad. I love the internet. I am going to try to use this as a trimmer and see how it works. Thanks for everyone's help. Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm willing to bet the threads are the same as standard safety razors so you most likely can buy another head for that handle.
