Last night, I attended Adam Savage's live show, called "Brain Candy Live" He does the show with Michael Stevens, who does a lot of YouTube science videos on a YouTube Channel he calls VSauce. I have watched Mythbusters (on the Discovery channel) for its entire run and loved it. So when I found out that his live show was coming to NYC, I knew I had to go. I indulged & bought a VIP ticket, which meant a really good seat for the show & a backstage meet & greet. There were about 150 VIP's so we were divided into smaller groups. (This was very well organized) We got a short Q & A session and I got to ask the very first question! Everyone then got to have their picture taken with the 2 hosts. You brought your camera and a staff member took the photo. They took the time to have a brief chat with everyone, during their photo op and they were especially good with kids. They were quite gracious when I met them, praising me for being a teacher. This is the Science-teacher equivalent of meeting a Beatle!!
I realize that both hosts must have learned many new things in their jobs, so I asked them each what was their favorite new knowledge (or skill) and why? They did some neat stuff to demonstrate effects of air movement, including using a bunch of blow-driers to make a hovercraft and giving a little girl from the audience a ride on it. They also used special-effect smoke to show the vortex produced by an air cannon. (It looked like a big donut made of smoke.)
Here is a picture; @mrchick this show is touring the country. Check online; it might be coming to your area.
I loved the show except for one episode. They 'dispelled' the myth sinking ships suck crewmen down by sinking some small pleasureboat @ 25' with one of them aboard. Well, I've abandoned sinking ships and corresponded with several survivors; including the last of 3 H.M.S. Hood survivors. 30 ' is not a battleship and they all were pulled down. One was blown back to the surface when a giant air bubble broke free as a boiler exploded. Loved the one with the dead pig in a corvette. My nieghbor has a red one, drives past me walking around town avoiding eye contact.
That is awesome. I've seen every episode of Mythbusters and was sad to see it go. My 9 year old daughter is obsessed with science now so we are watching the episodes together and she loves it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
