Just a little update about 23 hours after my last shave. I think I can officially call yesterday's shave my closest ever and maybe my most comfortable ever too. My stubble is the shortest I can ever remember it being a day later. I couldn't go to work with it or anything but still, noticeably shorter than usual. I think I'm now a believer in the merits of the injector razor. :) I'm glad I have a good supply of these Personna Platinum Chrome blades since I think they're probably not made anymore.

Anyone use carbon blades is their SE? I pulled one of the carbon PAL blades from the tour box with my Gem. I've been stropping it after every shave on my leather strop. How long do you think I could keep it sharp? I guess I've shaved with it about 5 times and its still sharp as ever. It only takes a couple minutes to strop up and I feel like it could greatly extend the life of it. Would like to hear what you veterans think.

I much prefer the carbon steel SE blades over their stainless counterparts. I use Treet, GEM Blue Star and the CVS blades, all of which are made by ASR. I didn't care for the PAL blades I tried.

All I do is dry them off immediately after each use and store them in an airtight plastic container.

Someone on the Shake-Sharp thread was saying, they thought they had bought an old razor that had a carbon DE blade that had been kept sharp from honing for many years...and it was narrower from having had metal removed...lol

Couldn't agree more, the I types are the perfect injectors. In my not so humble opinion, of course.

Spent the last few days reading all 60 pages of this thread...

    Good Stuff !

I'm going to start here and turn loose the Shicks a bit later

I've seen a lot of info on the PAL Adjustables and felt skeptical...sounded like a hit or miss situation, but heard enough good stuff to take a shot at finding one that still functioned decently just to have around...

Lady Luck came through, turned up a cased model in outstanding condition.

The 5 level adjustment mechanism functions well,I'm able to clearly see the safety guard extend and retract.

For my first shave I set the adjustment dial right down the middle on 3...at that setting it felt about as mild as a Shick Hydro-Magic.

I've set the dial on High " #5 " the last couple of days,it's performance at the highest setting feels a bit more aggressive than my Schick G 4.

The shaving angle wasn't at all the same as Shick's usual blade cover almost flat against the skin setup...

I lift the end of the PAL's handle about 20 degrees upwards, somewhat similar to the shaving angle of some DE razors.

I can't help that I love the looks of this razor and knowing that felt the need to evaluate it with an especially critical eye but the darn thing has done nothing but perform solidly and will always have a home with me

When I say the PAL on #3 feels as mild as a Hydro-Magic,that's a good thing...
This I2 is top dog at my house.Extremely effective without a bit of irritation.
I use Personna PTFE blades from Connaught Shaving.

I just couldn't resist getting a Hydro-Magic. I bought this lot on ebay just to get a hold of one, and I got 2 :) Can't wait for them to get here.

Some scrubbing bubbles and an old tooth brush and maybe a little whitening toothpaste and those schicks will probably turn into a couple of sexy beasts like razorx's 'Hydro-zilla'....

And I bet that G's going to be turning some heads...If you don't like any of those Schicks, send this way...You'd be surprised how happy a razor can get vacationing here at my place on the Med...:happy093:

Is there much of a difference in shave quality between an injector and SE razors? I have an injector that shaves really close, easily. Was wondering if the SE's had that same quality.

I can get outstanding results with SE and Injectors
Injectors help me make it happen with less effort...

In my experience, they both have a different feel , but I get a great shave from both an injector and an SE. Another random comment is that I have to be a little more creative right under the nose because SEs typically have a large head.

Will regular SE blades work in any of the Damaskeene razors?
