Let me know as well. My top door isn't quite tight.

Here is my OC Dammy. The small lever that holds the blade forward was loose. I had to tweak the small spring with the heart cutout. It took some doing. I got it. [IMG] [IMG][IMG]
The larger issue is the main spring that holds the lid. The fist of the following pictures shows how it should look. The second picture shows how it is pulled away from the back wall slightly. This does not allow for the top to open properly. It can also cause the top to pop off on that side. [IMG][IMG]
I do not want to try and mess with this. The proper way is to unrivet the spring from the body and bend back into shape. As you need to over bend to get it to take the proper set. There is no gap to allow that.

All said, I am very happy with this purchase. I will be using it tonight.

Is there a Dammy doctor in the house?

I took some photos. But how do you take a photo of reduced tension on the top plate? The one on the left is the one with issues. I am almost concerned about shaving with it. If I do, do you think I can count it for Mayham next year?

So I crop my photos so they fit easier and I missed one. Then I tried to delete the one photo that was not cropped and as you see that did not go like I had planned. Here is the photo I missed the last post. 20170629_193148~2.jpg

Going by this photo. I would say the razor on the left has the left spring bent down too much. You can pop the cap off and look to see if it is lower than the right side. If it is then it can be bent up to increase the tension.

My situation is not visible..I just feel the flip top does not have enough tension to hold the blade down.

I can hold each side of the flip cap and it minutely moves left and right. The center thingamajig seems to be narrower than the opening...not sure if that's by design.

I need a re-plating too, so if anyone can recommend a mechanic and body shop in one, that would be great!!

Thanks Tom. That did help some but I am afraid to go too far as I don't want to break it.

On yours. Not enough tension is most likely the main springs. Those can be tweaked a bit to tighten it up.

As for the side to side movement, that is normal. Unless it is excessive. If it is, it can be corrected by removing the cap and very slightly bending the ears in.

I have not had any razors replayed, so I cannot answer that with any real knowledge.

Thanks Tom...I will take a closer look at the springs.

    Re-platers anyone??

I will take a few pictures on how to pop the cap off you need them. I use a small screwdriver and pull the ear out slightly.

Here we go. All you need is a small screwdriver and needle nose pliers. Pliers only to tweak spring.
Insert screwdriver as shown. Once inserted twist CCW lightly.
The cap will pop up when released
    [IMG]
Looking at the back side now. You can see the left side spring is bent down slightly.
Now to bend spring take your needle nose pliers and pinch as so. Very lightly to start then check. Repeat as needed.
    After bending looks much better.
Now when you reinstall the cap. Make sure the small vertical spring pertrudes through the opening. Slide the first side into position. Make sure the ear is on top of the main spring. Then moving to the other side, use the screwdriver to pull out the ear slightly and push the cap into position.

It is actually easy. You must be carful tweaking the springs. As the brass is soft and will deform easily. Small increments I tested all this with my Gem Junior as it is beat on. It is now ready for Gun Kote.

    Glad you found it helpful.

Very pleased with my Dammy. The plating is really good. Considering the age. 100+ years.

my-dad-s-razor-06-29-2017.jpg This mornings SOTD that I wished I didn't do.
I've got to go back an see where I got those blades from.
Between the razor and the blades I got my butt handed to me.... er face.
    Over seven very nasty nicks.
This was my dad's razor so I had to try it out.
Don't think I will do that again.
My Gem 1912 is calling me....but not till my face heals.
