It would have turned into Caves of Steel. (Isaac Asimov) I'm not against arcologies, but most of them are dreamed up by morons with no real concept of how people really are. As Terry Pratchett put it, they're the sort of people that don't think 'This is how people are, how do we deal with it?" but rather "This is how people should be, how can we make them that way?" Now, honestly, I don't have a bit of trouble with his envisioning of the disposable razor blade. The original razor blades were 100% recyclable, as were the razors themselves, and the material they were made of was fully degradable. It's the CURRENT disposables that I have issues with. (And ink cartridges!)
