Making a NEW Handle You may have thought, oh, a new brush handle, but no, it is a handle for the NEW that I just got. The NEW was in really bad shape: corroded and the handle was split. I got it for the handle ends thinking I could make a wooden handle. Here it it. Not finished, but it is on the way. I cut a piece of pine and rounded it using my Dremel. I found the center and made a pilot hole using a 1/8 inch bit. Using a 1/8 inch cutter, I opened the hole to about 1/4 inch. Then I changed to a larger cutter bit and enlarged the hole until I could fit the ends into the handle. Here I have the ball end fitted in the bottom. Here I have both ends fitted into the handle. Next, I put some shape into the handle. Here, I have tapered the ends into the fittings and given the handle a waist. Same handle, just the other side. Next, I will be doing some finishing sanding and then stain and finish with polyurethane. After it has dried, I will glue the ends in with epoxy.
I do have some ebony. I'll try it out on some scrap wood and see if it will stain well. Thanks for the feedback.
I did it. I will let it dry over night and then stain it one more time to get it darker. Then, I'll put some poly on it.
Jim Fantastic work. You need to make a matching brush for that now. You never cease to amaze us all. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Some how copy the curves and match the stain. Maybe a long slender handle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Here you go, Tom. Same wood. I didn't take progressive photos though. The knot is a synthetic I had on hand. I may use it, and I may use another that is on the way. We shall see. I got a second application of the stain, and then I have the first coat of poly on the razor handle.
