Waiting may be over. Got an email from Mongoose today and placed an order. May take awhile to process.
So I've been reading this thread from start thru today and it piqued my interest enough that I sent an email to mongoose. Here's what they are telling new customers: ------- Greetings from Mongoose, Thank you for your interest in the Mongoose Razor - we appreciate the inquiry. As you may have read, we are currently in production, but inventory is thin and we are working down a rather large backlog of open requests. So, we are taking your email address and add it to our “notification list”. Once we have razors in stock, we will contact you (the wait could be several weeks, as we are fulfilling demand in the order people joined the list). In addition, updated information regarding Mongoose Razors will be posted to our Facebook page and in our Facebook group. As for pricing, the Polished finish is $169 – head & ½” handle, shipped in the US (due to the high expense of mirror-polishing and increased inspection), and the Satin finish is $159 – head and ½” handle, shipped in the US. Overseas will be somewhat higher, due to the additional postage and insurance. Head-only purchases may be made too, at about $10 less than the full kit. Please note – the Polished heads may take longer, as our polishing shop has been very backed up. We want to be up front about those delays, so you can make your decision based on reality. We will not, however, be offering the larger handles, which means the 5/8” diameter Dub Legend (polished) and Big Bomber (satin) handles will not be a purchase option. Thanks again for your interest and for contacting us about the Mongoose Razor. Best Regards, The Mongoose Team
How can I get in touch with this company? I don't have an SE razor in my stable and this could be a first good candidate. Thanks in advance!
If you're wondering what the email/offerings will look like that you get when 'your turn is up', this is what you'll receive:
Congrats on getting the email for ordering. Be sure to let us know when you get the actual invoice. In my experience when I got the invoice and paid it was in my hands in 2 or 3 days. You might want to place an order with tryablade.com for a sampler pack of blades. That way you'll know your preference before ordering a pack of 20.
Good idea as I've heard that the blade can make or break it for you when it comes to this razor - and that it is, again, highly subjective.
One other thing in the beginning that throws people is the sheer size of the razor head. To start it felt as if the head was being pulled into my face and had a drag. Turns out I had the angle a little wrong and the other is the lather. The Mongoose really rewards a lather that is a bit thinner but super slick. It's still my favorite razor for work mornings.
The satin finish on the Momgoose is not a brushed finish. It's more like a bead blasted finish or mat finish. Very industrial looking and mine has proven to be tough as nails.
