My Latest Acquisition Part 1 - 1933 British Gillette No. 77 set

    1933 British Gillette No. 77 set - Gillette's only 2-piece razor. We know this is the No. 77 set because it comes in a bakelite case. The No. 88 set has the exact same razor but comes in a metal case.

    I think someone opened this set, used it once, cleaned it, took the other 2 blades out of the set, and put the set away. The razor is mint as is the bakelite case and blade boxes.

    Very nice, Jody. Any idea what the shave is like compared to other say 3 piece Gillettes?

    Has a similar config. to a NEW?

    Having used one of these 2-piece models previously for a while, I think it's pretty much the same as any other long-tooth Gillette NEW model. To me anyway. I've seen others say it's a tad bit aggressive, similar to an adjustable Gillette set on 7 or 8. I don't find it that aggressive myself though.

    Wow, that is beautiful. You take some great pictures. How do you get pictures to come out so clear when you take a close up?

    Thank you. My camera has the macro function on it. Most modern cameras do but most people don't know what it is because the button or option in the software has a flower symbol on it - which is supposed to let you know you can get really close to flowers, bugs, etc. and take sharp, clear photos.

    You know, I have seen the symbol but didn't know what it was. Thank you for that. I will have to give that a try, I never seem to get a good close up picture.

    Still great pictures, with a great subject. You never cease to amaze me with your collection and knowledge.

    That is just a beautiful razor! A true piece of history preserved in mint condition. Sometimes life just doesn't get any better than that.

    Nice razor and case! The British seemed to have the upper hand when it came to the plating on their razors until the mid 1960s. After that it really made no difference because the produced were moving away from the beautiful plate work.
