After a bit of blood letting with the KC it was, admittedly, nice to experience the OB :)

And the pivot? Does it have any impact...benefit?

Good question and I guess it's impossible to answer in a way as I can't of course shave w/out it :)

    I don't apply a whole lot of pressure when I shave so I didn't see/feel the head pivoting/angling as I shaved.
Having said, that the mechanism isn't as stiff as, say, the Personna Floating head razor razor that sports a similar feature so it's quite possible that there are some very minor movements that happens as I shave that my eye can't catch (and to be honest I didn't look for it this shave). It could well be part of the reason that the shave felt so comfortable and 'safe'.

I'll try to pay more attention to it in the subsequent shaves and maybe also, to try it out, shave with a bit more pressure.

I am getting more and more curious regarding this shaver, but with the amount of blades I would presumably go through, I can't foresee this being an inexpensive way to go about shaving, for me.
I can usually get 10 excellent shaves with my principal DE blade and if I can't get more than 3-4 with these Feather SE blades, it wouldn't be worth the money, for me.
Seeing as though I am extremely content with my current DE razors, and having to spend over $350 US just to try this shaver and blades, I don't foresee this happening.

Regardless, I do wish everyone with one of these many great shaves. :)

If you can get 10 shaves out of a DE blade your stonelike-skin might be able to get 6-7 out of these blades :D
If this razor had not been on sale ($195 shipped w/ 30 free blades) I doubt I would ever had gotten one as that had kept me away from it since it was released.
As it is the razor was $50 less expensive than a King Cobra for me (California tax) and on par with a Pils 101 for instance.

There are highly, highly unconfirmed rumors that this version will see a permanent price reduction in the next year but don't rely on that rumor if you want the razor and can afford/justify it at this price point as that rumor is highly speculative at best. We'll see.

I understand your concern but have to agree that the OC threads can come in handy. I bought my first Schick Repeating Razor before ever seeing a thread on one. Then the SRROC thread was started and I learned a lot about my razor and of course bought a couple more. It has been nice to be able to subscribe to that thread and learn more and share with other fans. I have seen nothing I would call elitist there.
On the flip side, I do not own a Mongoose and have not subscribed to the Mongoose OC thread but know where to go if the RAD takes me there.
This site has such a great bunch of members, I don't think the elitist crowd would fit in or hang around very long.

    Shave Report - Day #2

Had another afternoon-shave so it was just about 24 hours since my previous shave.
The last time (first time using the razor) it had to deal with about three days of stubble...this time only a day so I was curious to see how/if the shave would feel any different.

I took out the blade after the last shave and rinsed both razor and blade so the first time I did was plopping the [same] blade back into the razor and off to the bathroom I went.

Lathered up some Muhle shaving soap (first time using it and really liked both performance and scent) with my Wolf Whiskers brush and started shaving.
First pass (WTG) I couldn't tell any difference as far as blade sharpness. It felt smooth against my skin and did a very nice job eliminating the stubble I had.

Second pass (ATG) I decided to tempt faith a bit. The razor feels almost 'fool-proof' in that you can't cut yourself even if you try...so..well...I tried a bit.
Going against the grain I applied quite a bit more pressure than I would ever do using a DE/SE razor and lo and behold the pivoting actually 'does something'. In a very, very subtle way it seemed to compensate for that additional pressure - which was especially noticeable when I pushed the razor a bit harder when I was on the jawline. Rather impressive.
Now, I wouldn't necessarily recomment tempting faith this way but I have to say it did a rather remarkable job saving me from myself.
(Don't take the above as if the razor is 'overly mild' and require 3-4 passes to get a clean/close shave - for the second time in a row two passes left me extremely close shaved).

I'm packing to head up to Lake Tahoe for a few days and this is the razor I'm bringing. Even if I wasn't in the middle of trying it out I actually thing I would have brought it anyway.
It's a very, very good razor.

(I am however bringing a spare blade as I still need to see if I can get three comfortable shaves out of it).

    Shave Report - Day #3

As much as one can love an inanimate object I think I might love the OneBlade.

Third shave with it this morning and it was a sheer pleasure to use. The result, after my usual two passes, was one of the closest and smoothest I think I've experienced this year.
This was btw using the same blade for the third time so I have little qualms about using it for the fourth shave as well.

Razors and blades are as we all know, highly subjective but to me this has been a fantastic combination resulting in what might end up being my 'razor of the year'.

    Is it all good then?

No, I still don't like how I extract the blade. Every time I do so (and I do it after every shave) I worry about damage it and that aspect/design of the razor feels a bit in contrast to how well thought out the rest of the razor is.
Also, I noticed that my razor's head has a slight 3mm-or-so 'play' allowing the head to move laterally a bit. Now, this doesn't effect the shave in any way of course but it's still something I noticed. On the upside - I contacted OneBlade both via email and Twitter and their CS came back to me w/in hours on both plat forms - on December 23rd - informing me that if I was in any way concerned they will have it taken in and inspected and repaired/replaced.

Anyway, very, very impressed and thrilled I was able to get one of these when the discount code applied. A very solid, efficient and enjoyable razor.

    Merry Christmas to you all!!

Tomorrow will be my 3rd shave with the OB. My 2nd shave was even better than the first. I continue to really like the razor especially as I get to know it better with each shave. I would love to reduce my stable to just 3 razors. I do wonder how some guys say that they can't get more than 2 shaves out of a blade. Mine seems to be going strong.

Regarding the lateral play in the razor with the blade, I have read many other comments reporting the same. Some guys didn't even know it was there until others reported it. So seems like it's 'possed to be that way.

    Glad you're enjoying it!

How easy is it for you to clean?

Something I really like about 3-piece razors is the ease with which they are cleaned.

Easier than a 3 piece razor. It's one piece of stainless steel. I rinse it under running water. Done.

I'm also surprised about some people reporting not being able to use the blade for more than 1-2 times. I'm pretty confident, based on today's shave, that the fourth use of the blade will be good. The number of times one of these blades can be used in the razor - especially when taking it out after each shave - was a bit of a concern of mine initially but I'd say that has been put to rest.

The lateral play seems to be one area where the razor is not 100% consistent as I've also now read some reports of no play and up to 3-4mm. Sure it won't impact the shave in any way at all and if it's there and you don't care for it it appears that OB is more than happy to take it in for free service/replacement.

Very happy with my purchase :)

    Shave Report Day # 4

Another really stellar shave with the razor this afternoon.
It was the fourth time using the same blade and maybe it was my imagination and/or me actively trying to feel if it was getting more dull but at the end of the shave it felt as if it didn't quite have the same smoothness as the previous shaves. It might be that, for me at least, this is a four-shave blade which quite honestly isn't bad at all.

    Merry X-Mas All !

Interesting....Today was my 3rd shave on the same blade and I noticed it dulling out a bit. The shave was fine; smooth, non-irritating, but I noticed the blade not cutting as close as shaves 1-2. I'm sure shave 4 would be fine but that would probably be the end of the blade for me as well.

I wonder what the diff. is between the Feather spineless and the Feather AC blade that makes them last so vastly different??
