Open Comb Central - The Place With Real Teeth (No R41, Hybrid or Closed Combs)

I shaved with my new to me Canadian Single Ring today and got a very good shave. Aggressive, but not quite a smooth as a New, or New Improved. It shaves very similar to the Old Type, maybe a touch more aggressive. I did like the shave and will make it part of my rotation.

Aftershave: Fine - Fresh Vetiver
Cologne: Tom Ford For Men

My first Open Comb shave was a pleasant success. They handle a little different than the Super Speed. Overall a DFS+, one pass with touch up. No bites, No nicks, and No weepers. Very nice!

Inaugural run on a Cadet OC, and first ever OC shave period. Honestly pass one was so aggressive...I backed off and finished with the Utopia I know well. Gonna go back to Utopia for NOvember...another 30days of technique definitely in order for this OC razor.

The Voskhod felt great in the Utopia though, I think it's blade gap that was messing with me.

Nice! I love the old Bama QBs. I wore Bart Starr's jersey to a game in GB a few weeks ago. I have been lucky to meet Stabler, Starr and Namath.

 

I've got an old type, was my Great Uncle's (gift from my 90 year old aunt). Didn't like it much on my first try, but now that I'm gaining a "feel" for OC razors, I'll have to try it again.

 

The Old seems to work better with a less sharp but smoother blade. Usually I go with a "Big Ben" or one that is close to it in smoothness when I use one of my Old types.

Not sure what these are but one is in really rough shape.

 

2 Long Comb NEWs and an Old Type. Those cracked handles are pretty common because sometimes those end pieces were a little too tight when press fit so over time the tube cracks.

 

This one I bought on eBay. It has a date of 1920. I used it just now. My very first open comb shave ever. Astra SP blade, proraso white croap and A vufix brush. I finished with a generic brand witch hazel and a Clinique post shave lotion.

All I can say is WOW. One of the closest shaves I've ever had. My neck is a little marked up but I'll keep at it. Any suggestions/thoughts?

 

Looks to be a NEW LC, A Goodwill and an Old Type.

Well, it's finally happened.

After thinking my shave universe revolved solely around straights, the curiosity bug has bitten and the first Safety is on the way. It occurred to me that to not partake in the enjoyment of this aspect of ShaveJoy would be shallow. So the last few days I've been immersed in Safety Razor Culture. After some study on the topic, it seemed to me that this would be a good choice for a first SR:
