Is there a trick to this? How do you pull your skin taut when everythings covered with shaving cream and water?
I wet my fingers and rub them on an alum block. That lets me grip even wet soapy skin. It also works to improve your grip if the razor handle is slippery.
I'm sure someone will give some explanation involving the coefficient of friction, blah, blah, blah... But I like to think it's elfin magic.
Is this for straight shaving? If so, then you rely on a combination of face contortions and sometimes just shaving the lather off the areas where you need to place your hands. You don't need to go crazy with it, it's just that the straight seems to do a better job on some parts of your face when the skin is pulled tight in those areas. If this is for DE or SE shaving, then you really don't need to pull your skin taught unless you have some folds or features that you are trying to get at. In fact, I pull my skin when using a straight, but actually think it hurts my results whenever I end up doing it for a DE shave. Language!!!! Oh, wait....... ah yes, "elfin magic".
that's where I'm at, I do alot of pointing my chin and cutting my eyes back toward the mirror. I try to stretch with my useless left hand( gets frustrating, especially with the straights). de, I'm pretty used to doing.
Get old and you get saggy skin. Then, you can pull it all over the place to get it taut. Ask me how I know. Greg W.
These things are all personal of course but I tend to pull the skin to get a flat surface without making it too tight.. I don't want any tension... Billy...
Taut Skin:Why? I like the analogy of trying to shave two lathered balloons: one filled taut with air; the other soft & saggy. I guarantee the 'taut' one will be easier to shave and yield a better result.
