Maybe it's just me but the plating on new (and usually less expensive) razors looks too shiny when compared with, say, a vintage Gillette in mint condition. Even old Gillettes with plain old nickel plating, when it's intact, have a solid looking gleam but on some new razors, like Weishi, I can't help but be reminded of the silvering done on "chrome" plastic car model parts. Is it just my imagination or is there a different type of nickel being used today? Or IS it nickel?
Fwiw, I believe nickel is a more durable finish than chrome. Chrome is not flexible in the least and, once cracked, it will peel off. Maybe that's why Gillette went with nickel.
