    Crystal (d2)
    Arko Stick + Tabac
    Tweezerman
    Old Spice Pure Sport
Result: Second day with my newly acquired slant. Seems slightly more aggressive than my New. Got a very high grade DFS on 2 passes, and solid BBS on the third, including my neck. Have been getting small nicks by my lips. Must make some technique adjustments there.

Blind Blade Test, Shave of the Day (SOTD) Tuesday August 14, 2012
    [IMG]
Prep: Brush soaking in hot water, face scrub with TSD Sandalwood soap, Tepid Water Shower
Razor: 1965 Gillette Slim Adjustable set to 9
Blade: Blind Blade Test Blade #10, Shave #2
Brush: Vie-Long LE Beehive Natural Horse Hair
    Soap: Tabac
    AS: Aqua Velva Musk
Post: Cold Water Rinse, Alum, Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave.

This is day twenty-five of the blind blade test, which is the second shave with blade number ten, the last blade of the test.

Per the guidelines of the test I will not be posting my results of the blade, as we do not want other participants to be influenced by our own shaving experience. At the end of the test I will be posting my complete daily journal. All variables remain the same accept for the aftershave.

The picture is a recycle from a previous post as I have used this gear before.

    Omega boar brush
    Kappus aloe vera s/c
    Pinaud Lime Sec a/s
    Malizia Vetyver e de c

Despite it's name, this is not an American but a German razor, which I think was originally intended to be a souvenir of the St Louis World's Fair.
It is not just a carnival prize but a very good razor, which I treasure as a relic of a great historical event.

    Have a great day, everyone

When I got this razor as a gift my intention was to go to the Shaptons which is my norm for these NY steel razors, but thinking about it an extra day and looking at the edge I decided to try a different approach.. It looked like the razor had never been used, so I decided to to what the shave would be like if I kept it like somebody would have buying the razor brand new 80-90 years ago..
I took out my Swaty and lathered it up, did exactly 10 laps and used 1 layer of tape to make sure I concentrated on the edge and not the bevel...

The shave as you can see from the pic was also very simple and Cheap [IMG]

Strop = Illinois #827 50/100 Linen - Leather NO pastes at all $40 shipped (GIYF)
Brush = Burma Shave new from Walmart $5.95
Soap = Williams new from Walmart $.98
    A/S = Old Spice Walmart $8.95

Shave = 1 pass WTG, touchup with a clear water pass

    Results = CCS [IMG]

Can it get better with a run throught the Shaptons ??? Yes
But I could shave this edge for the rest of my life without any problems at all

I have been obsessing lately over getting a perfect BBS every time -- three passes plus touchup. Yesterday, I ended up with an irritated face that bothered me all day long. I contemplated skipping a day (hey, my coworkers would barely notice ;)), but instead I decided to focus on correct technique to avoid irritation. A new blade, slow, gentle strokes, NO pressure, two passes only and no touch up. I ended up with a very satisfactory DFS, not perfect, but my face is thanking me! I will try this again!

    Shower & Shave

The morning started with a spectacular hot shower. Afterwards facial scrub with Proraso glycerin.
Tuesday's featured soap, Chelesa Gardens Katmandu.
Tuesday's featured brush, Vulfix 28 boar
Tuesday's razor and blade combo, Gillette Open Comb, new style with a Perma Sharp blade. This was the last day for this great duo.
Post shave cold water splash, alum, Colonia "Road Opener", TSD Lemongrass.
Three passes resulted in a super great DFS.

Hope everyone has a great day. IMG_0567.JPG

Shave Oil: 5Savages Shave Oil (grape seed & castor oil, clove & tea tree EOs)
    Razor: Merkur 42C
    Blade: Ladas (2)
    Brush: Vulfix 660S
    Soap/Cream: Tabac
Post: 5Savages ASL (WH, Vodka, Aloe, Glycerin, EdC), Lucky Tiger

After this shave it was time to put the Tabac away and pull out a tube of C.O. Bigelow for the next few days. A bittersweet moment for sure.

This 1/2 oz sample of IK looks to be only 1/2 way gone after 14 shaves. I load up the brush with the same amount that I would for shaving, but there's still plenty left. I had been estimating 1 gram per shave for tripled milled soaps but I guess I'll have to reduce that number. As far as the IK, I'm tiring of it and would toss the rest except that I'm genuinely curious how many times I can lather it before it's gone. Perhaps I'll spend an hour test lathering it until it's gone.

This go-round of Ladas shaves has gone much better than my first go-round and they are now on my short list. Perhaps I'm just fortunate, but I find that most blades that I've tried do well for me, Derby's and 7 A.M.'s being the biggest exceptions.

Lucky Tiger....another product that doesn't excite me. This is a small sample bottle so I'll use it up and be done with it.

    Brush: Semogue 1305 Boar.

I got a decent shave but I think I used a little too much water in my lather.

It is nice to get back to straights again, but seems I lost a part of my skill as I cannot perform a proper ATG pass. ATGs are a must for my, because of heavy stubble, it feels scrubby of feel when check upward on my chin.

    4/8 Rebell razor from herzi
    Vie-Long horsehair brush
    Ceramic bowl
    Fitjar Calmomilla SC
    Cold water splash
    Fitjar Miklagard AS cream

A DFS. Chin area needs more work ATG, but I better enjoy a smooth shave, then a burn and some nicks... This small razor feels... sharp. It gives a better feedback then my W&B chopper and also makes a louder sound when cuts ;). Many thanks to herzi (Stefan), who gave me that small German beauty!
