I love the stuff! The accompanying Lemon Chill Witch Hazel is outstanding as well. My current puck is getting thin, and I have a puck of the Glacial Wintergreen as a menthol Monday backup. I haven't decided yet if I'll get into it, or reorder the Glacial Lemon Chill I like it so much...or, I may just revisit my old friend - Frozen Tundra. There's no such thing as having too many mentholated soaps here in the Arizona desert.

    SOTD 15 December 2014 - Menthol Monday

    MTO/VDH/Weishi 9306 kickoff edition
    image.jpg

Today's shave featured a blast from the past, some items from a recent PIF win, and Derby Green! And a great deal of menthol...

MTO/VDH/Weishi 9306 loaded with Derby*Green label (My razor was sold as VDH)
    VDH Kit Badger Brush
    TSD Iced Subzero Preshave Balm*
    Stirling Glacial Obsidian
    Osage Rub*

I started this shave today with a TSD preshave...rich, thick and moisturizing, with loads of menthol...left my skin soft and ready to shave. I kept the great skin feel going with another round of Glacial Obsidian because it's Monday. I really like the lather and it does not dry my face...and for coldness...Obsidian is first rate! And the intense, powerful chill of the Osage is the real deal...this stuff is frosty. It makes me think Jeris bombed out with menthol...powdery/medicinal and an instant Menthol Monday choice.

The Weishi Razor was the first DE I ever bought, and started me on the DE quest. I decided to use Derby because no one was here to stop me. All kidding aside...this was a nice comfortable 2 pass DFS! I cordially invite you to revisit MTO. @Justin Linker has something fun going on here...maybe you take the MTO Challenge? Find out more >here<! We will be writing about this razor and associated fun in an ongoing project.

I made sure to do an extra lather for @ram57, he is on the road with no menthol!
Items marked an asterisk were sent to me through a recent PIF by @rmcintyre84. Thank you much!

    Have a nice evening!

    Nivea Men's Face Wash
    C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream
    Frank Shaving Finest Badger brush
    Merkur 37c Slant
    Feather Hi-Stainless
    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    Thayers Lemon WH
    Pinaud Vegetal

The C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream face-lathered well with my Frank Shaving Finest Badger brush. Two passes with my Merkur 37c Slant and Feather Hi-Stainless blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Vegetal after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Any of the other Glacial soaps are the real deal when it comes to menthol power. For the scents, even there I find it difficult to choose a favourite because I love them all so much. I still have to get the two new Glacials which were recently launched and that's what I'll be doing after the Christmas holidays.

    TUESDAY
    Evening Shave
My first shave with my new (old) Otto Deutsch 'Hans' Deco-styled razor (Bresduck, Inc.). Honed it earlier today, with an Escher finish (Thanks for the suggestion, Glen! @gssixgun ). Super-smooth feel to the blade, very reminiscent of the Dubl Duck and Beau Brummel ('cousins'). The blade is much lighter than a number of those hefty Sheffields I've been wielding recently, and just glides across the face with a quite audible resonance. The square point has been blunted slightly somewhere in this razor's past, but enough 'tip' remains to 'get in close' but not pointed so much so as to make me more prone to cheek-gouging. :shocked002:
A very pleasing, smooth shaving experience, especially for a first time trial with a new razor. I look forward to many more mornings (or evening shaves) with this razor!
    Have a great Tuesday, all!

    Shave of the Day

The "I'm Old and I Hurt So I'm Using a Fat Handle Razor" Edition

Prep: hot bath, sandalwood patchouli PSO
Razor: GEM Junior "Parade" Fat Handle
    Blade: GEM Personna PTFE (4)
Brush: New Forest 2204 High Mountain Badger
    Lather: Speick shave stick
Shave: 3 passes; WTG, XTG, ATG + Cleanup
Post: Aqua Velva Ice Blue, mentholated Nivea Sensitive

So I'm hurting tonight. Had a soak in very hot Epsom salt bath and a shave with the arthritic-hand friendly Parade. I can really tell the difference between holding this razor and say, a Fatboy. The wide grip doesn't make me have to squeeze as tight.

Anyways, I got a good lather, an excellent lather from the Speick. Mentholed it up with some AV and M-bombed Nivea.

Results are a great smooth shave.

Glad you're enjoying the PIF so far. I already regret getting rid of the stuff, but my skin just can't take it. That Osage Rub should last about 10 years.

    Tabacstag - consistently great shaves
Tabac was excellent as usual today, this time with my Plisson and Aristocrat with Voskhod blade. I finished with Krampert's Finest Acadian Spice Bay Rum - a nice compliment to the Tabac soap and Tabac EdC.

I finally got to try another Turkish-made stick and let me tell you that it's fantastic. The GZD stick smells EXACTLY like the Arko one and it gives the same kind of rich, easy-to-create lather with pretty good skincare. My Lord Super knocked off my tough stubble so easily with the help of the 7 AM and the Booster Iced Lime aftershave was a heck of a nice finish. Tomorrow I'll go with some extreme mentholated stuff, and on Thursday I'll try the new Blueness stick I received which is also from Turkey. ;) :D

    Proraso Sensitive Preshave
    WD Synthetic
Yeti Snot (a gift from @ram57 ; I don't know how to tag people, so I hope he sees this)
    Merkur 34C w/Gillette 7 O'clock SS (1)
Cold water splash, alum, cold towel, 444 balm, TSD Iced Subzero AS Milk
    W/X/A, touch-ups

Almost everything I've heard about YS is true. Love the smell. I'd rate the shave as decent, which is the highest rating I get. My skin felt great afterward. And yes, it was cold. My eyes watered building up the lather. But my nose didn't run at any point. It was my coldest shave ever, but I didn't achieve that skull-cracking cold most of you talk about. Of course, "cold" is relative. I shovel snow in shorts, so . . . well, draw your own conclusions. But it's nice to know this isn't a "one trick pony" . . . anyone can make a cold soap. But the YS delivered a delightfully chilly, smooth, cushioned shave. ram57 sent me a sample large enough to last for weeks, and I hope to find my own by summer time. I've asked Santa for some Glacial Obsidian (sounds like what a high-ranking Cardassian would shave with - some of you will get that) for Christmas. Fingers crossed!
