Maiden shave with the Friedr Herder this morning. It was a little less sharp than I thought it would be so there was more than the usual touch ups to get that nice, smooth finish. It was also time to replace the soap as it was the bottom of the puck and a little too soupy. Next time I take it out it will have had a light refresh on some diamond spray and felt and better lather. :happy088:

I have a goatee. Nice solution
The intimidation goes away with each successful shave. I saw little bits of improvement each day and then added a second pass. More improvements happened and then I started working on an ATG pass. Each step can be intimidating but can show incremental improvements. It just takes time. Good luck!

Single Ring was a little rough this morning, I suspect the Feather blade was a bit tired. Shake Sharp again for the save.

Friday's shave: hard to believe the week is gone again. Another Friday night date night with an afternoon shave. All Proraso this time. Proraso Red with matching after shave. Simpson "The Colonel" best badger brush, G1 Fatboy with an Astra SP blade. Captain's Choice bowl for lather and a bit of Nivea Post Shave Balm. Once again a different blade for my Fatboy - another great shave. Not sure if there are any blades that don't work in the Fatboy. Now to find my bride and head out for drinks and dinner.

The TABAC Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #128 brush. I did one pass and clean up with my newly restored H. Böker 5/8 straight, I didn't even need the Gillette Fatboy and Wilkinson Sword Super Sword blade. I ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with T.N. Dickinson's WH and then Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Today I did something new for me in the world of shaving! I tried a replicable blade, single edge razor – The Crown King Shavette with Bone Scales. Keep in mind, I also never used a standard straight edge. As expected, it was the roughest shave I had in a long time, maybe ever. Just call me “Bloody Nick”. As expected, doing something that is almost an art for the first time, I had difficulty trying to find a comfortable way to hold the razor, and even just seeing what I was doing. Between trying to keep my hands and arms out of the way and being half blind and at a distance from the mirror, I found it very awkward passing the razor at a good consistent angle, stroking the contour of my face, keeping the razor parallel with my skin and not applying pressure. My face was a bit raw after the shave and yes the alum stung when done. I am right hand is dominant, and my right cheek faired the best. I cut myself on the first pass on the left side closer to the jawbone. My neck was not too bad, but trying to get around my chin was the toughest. I was able to get an acceptable shave, closeness wise; but for sure it is not as smooth as my typical shaves – and definitely the blood is not a standard affair I encounter. My hat goes off to those of you that can do this on a daily basis. I will certainly give this razor a rest, give my face a break, and maybe try again next weekend if I am up to it. I think I need to watch some more videos now that I have tried it myself once and can relate better to what is happening. I’m not sure this type of shaving is for me. I have enough DE & SE razors that I love using, are comfortable and provide very enjoyable shaves. I had to give this a try, but in the end, I have to like what I am doing, or it becomes an unnecessary chore instead of a pleasurable experience. At least for now, I can say I gave it a try and even though it was rough, the adventure was fun, but definitely not something I’m ready to go all in on.
