Hot Shower Boker Red Injun #102 Semogue 2000 Ogalla Bay Rum Sage and Cedar Clubman Bay Rum Pierre Cardin EdC This is my first, and probably still my best straight razor. It seems this thing can't give anything but amazing shaves. What's more, maintaining a scary sharp edge on this thing is near effortless. Give it a touch up hone every 10 shaves or so and give it a good stropping pre-shave and the magic comes, every single shave.

Wednesday, January 05, 2011 Razor: Merkur Progress XL Blade: Supermax Super Stainless Brush: Vulfix 2006 Pure Badger Cream: Cyril Salter Sublime Citrus A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Speick ASB Great shave, using a brush I've been neglecting. The Vulfix 2006 is a basic $20 badger brush, and it works just fine with creams. I bought it for travel, but now prefer an artificial badger for its shorter drying time when traveling. Today, it whipped up a nice rich lather with the Salter cream, allowing the Supermax blade to work its magic. It's a cold, dry day today, so I went for the Speick balm. Ahh...feels good!

SOTD Wednesday, January 5, 2011 Razor: 1925 Silver Plated, Gardette, Open Comb - (Made in France) Blade: Dorco Platinum ST300 Shaving Soap/Mug: Tabac Scuttle: RAB Ceramic Brush: Omega Professional Boar Astringent: Dickinson's Witch Hazel ASB: Nivea Replenishing Aftershave/Cologne: Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue Results: BBS and Comfortable; outstanding! This is the second use of my newest acquisition the Silver Plated Gardette Open Comb. This is a very rare French made razor that is sort of a take off on the Gillette Bostonian. I only know of one other Shave Brother that has one of these, Haiku of the B & B Forum. (I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has one.) It is a great shaver and the first time I used it I thought it was very aggressive. This time I didn't feel the rawness of the blade on my face and, I surmised that last time it was probably due to the watery lather I had. (I can remember I screwed up and got too much water in the mix but I went ahead and used it.) This time with the great Tabac lather it felt great, about the same as a Fat Boy on #6. At any rate, it performed beautifully and delivered an irritation free BBS shave. It is a beautiful razor and will take it's rightful place in my rotation.
Today shave was a most special one for me...It's one of those hallmarks we always remember...Like when we returned to TWS... Todays Shave: Hot Wet Towel Arko Shave Stick Omega 10029 Baby-Pro Boar Eversharp-Schick I2/CVS Personna Day1 Arko Nem Mango Mandalina moisturiser Arko Aqua AS Splash I have said numorous times around here; that when I was growing up, I was obsessed with my Dad's Eversharp I2 Hydro-Magic. He got it in like '55 and I've told many stories about that razor...Years later when I started to shave he gave it to me. That was my favorite razor hands down for many years til it fell apart. If I knew then what I know now I would have kept it...But ignorance is bliss, and I've always been a pretty blissfull cat. Now our stingraysrock-Jeff knows about this and sent me his as a gift. It arrived today. I wasn't ready for how beautiful it is...He never said it was like new. This thing is like a Time-Machine..Well anyway you know how certain special razors can move us...After I got over just standing there smiling and digging it... I went through the nostalgic ritual of injecting a new blade in to it, which I haven't done in so many years...Then I shaved...the moment of truth...and with each stroke I was reminded of why I loved this razor sooo much...I loved every stroke, I expected a slight learning curve cause I've only used DE's since I came back to TWS over a year ago but...I truly loved each stroke...Like reminising, and having a new great moment, at the same time...) Two wonderful passes WTG and ATG, and perfection was achieved...only way too quickly...I had too much great lather still in my brush, and such a wonderful razor in my hand...but the BBS was one any Turkish Barber would have been jealous of. Another pass would have diminished the shave...So I applied my favorite skin moisturizer and splashed on some Arko Aqua AS Splash and there was ZERO irritation and my skin squeeked when I rub it...Not a nub or whisker to be found...:happy108 Consider me "born again injector"...and I will always be thankful for Jeff's thoughtfullness and generousity in reuniting me with the Eversharp I2...and everything that goes with it...
