    MENTHOL MONDAY SOTD

Razor: 1970 Black Handle Super Speed
    Blade: Astra SP
    Brush: Omega 10049
    Soap: Proraso Green
    AS: Nivea ASB

Some easy menthol for this "baby faced" shaver for Menthol Monday. The Proraso is always ready for a good shave.

Was originally going to use this German (probably East German) tech clone that my wife found. I always like to try new razors. The guard is arched steeply away from the top making it look fairly aggressive compared to a regular Tech, so I was apprehensive. I loaded the blade and, on closer examination, I noted that not only did the blade stick out, really exposed, above the guard, but it was aligned crooked and it was actually arched higher in the middle. I decided there was no way I was trying this one. :shocked003: Here's a pic anyway (w/o blade):

So I decided to switch the 1970 Black Handle SS that my wife also found. At least it looks nice and straight and clean! :happy088:

    7-27-15 - 2.JPG

Something I noted that I didn't realize is that the knurling on the Black Handle changed over time. Here is a comparison of the 1970 with a straight knurling pattern (front) and my 1980 with diamond patterned knurling (back). Just thought it was interesting. :signs002:

    Proraso Green Shaving Soap
Jayaruh #12 Black Pure Badger (First Shave)
    Ever-Ready 1912
    Treet Super
    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    Thayers Lemon WH
    Florida Water

The next four weeks will be brought to you by single edge razors as One Razor/One Blade/One Week continues. This week features the Ever-Ready 1912 razor.

The Proraso Green Shaving Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #12 Black Pure Badger brush. I was very happy with the performance of the new brush. Two passes with my Ever-Ready 1912 razor and a Treet Super blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. It is the closest thing to shaving with a straight I will get. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Florida Water after shave. An excellent shave all around. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

B-3 Mongoose with Triad Helix Hex Titanium
    Feather ProGuard #6
    Druida #7 Barberpole Manchurian
Stirling Soap Co. Glacial Obsidian (Sub)
Stirling Black Ice Witch Hazel, Unrefined Shea Butter
    Chiseled Face After Shave Cryogen

Two passes + clean up = BBS. Today’s shave is my first time using a Stirling Glacial Soap, an excellent choice for a very HOT summer day. To say Stirling takes menthol seriously is an understatement. Glacial Obsidian (GO) was a real face freezer. Toward the end of the first pass my eyes started watering, and continued through the second pass and clean up. Whoa Nelly! My barber pole brush and bowl churned up some major glacial suds. The lather was thick and slick with chillin’ moisturizing. 20 minutes after the shave my face was still feeling COLD. Two thumbs up for GO. The pleasant scent of cooling anise continued with the Black Ice Witch Hazel. Italians love anise. Loaded up my face with the shea butter before lobbing on the Cryogen. A total face freeze as I walked out into the blazing heat of an Arizona Day. Ummmmm! Ahhh!
    Have a great week!

Dunking my head into a bucket of ice-cold lemonade is how shaving with the Glacial Lemon Chill soap feels. AWESOME lather with such a nice lemony/menthol scent, perfect post-shave feeling as well. The Glacial Wintergreen balm and witch hazel felt absolutely heavenly afterwards. BBS again and so comfy!

The blade holder is too long related to the blade length: some points that I usually shave with the tail of the straight razor, are therefore more difficult to reach.
