The inspiration for Tom's B-400 are around. Rubberset 400's are the vintage original. The are hollow and cast aluminum. The B-400 is near identical in shape, but machined from a solid piece of aircraft grade metal. Good stuff!

I was wondering, does anyone sell ferrules for these brushes? I'll be pretty much exclusively using the Declaration knot but I'd be interested in setting a synthetic if someone sells the ferrules.

    Thanks!

That is a nice looking brush. Did you refurbish it yourself?

Scott (Declaration Brushworks/L&L) did it for a small fee actually. I put the Red O-Ring on it but thats all. He also hand-tied the knot, and its pretty fantastic. Really happy with it so far.

EDIT: Should check my spelling lol.

Very nice. Old brought back to life. That's always a good thing. Especially in today's throw away mentality and society! And the brush should work very well now!!! Enjoy!!!

I hit the jackpot and will soon be receiving one of the B-400 handles from @twhite. I'm looking for a synthetic knot for it, leaning towards the tuxedo but I'm open to other suggestions.

Congrats! Tom builds a superior quality handle. I like mine so much I traded off my vintage Rubberset 400 handle and kept the one he made.
Here's a photo of both the Tuxedo & a Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger. Both serve me well.

The ferrules are plenty deep to allow adjustment for a deep or shallow setting of the knot. Choose your loft!

Which synthetic knot are you using in your brushes Jim. The one I have is a good knot. Also have a good synthetic in one of my Tres Amigos brush. I think it is a Sunset.

I have used sunset in the past, but they are no longer available. I am using Maggard knots now. I have used some Tuxedo knots, too. Right now, I am using a black Maggard synthetic.

How would you compare these knots since you have probably used them all?

The Maggard knots (black and two band) are a great value, and I really like them for their backbone and softness. The backbone is not too stiff, and the tips are very soft. The Tuxedo has great looks, and it performs very nicely, too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. It is just personal preference.

Congrats Ben. I have Tom's handle with both a boar and a Tuxedo knot. The Tuxedo in this handle is my favorite brush by far.
