Being single and free to abuse kitchen appliances, I decided to risk my $14 48 knot by using steam to remove knot&cup from handle. I double wrapped the bristles in foil to protect them and cooked for maybe 12 minutes after which time the handle came right out with no effort and the bristles look fine. I used more traditional bashing and shearing to remove the brush from the cup with just a few hairs lost. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Way to go Jeff. That is the spirit, stink the kitchen up with hot hog hair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Obviously were I married I would have thrown a pork loin in for cover. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Just wondering from the folks who used the Tuxedo (24/25mm) knot in the B400 - what loft setting did you use?
Here is a video @jmudrick took of me setting an Omega knot. Now for your amusement the feature presentation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Took a little alteration, but I got a new Omega #10098 knot in my third B-400 ferrule. The Donor - a brand new Marvy box full of fresh boar bristle. Before decapitation, with a Whipped Dog High Mountain badger & an APShaveCo Tuxedo. The Omega handle is two plastic pieces pressed together. Easy to pop apart bare handed. The B-400 & Omega lower sections are close in size. Removing the Omega ferrule by a tap on the metal trim ring & nipping the plastic ferrule with bolt cutters. Some light chisel action frees the knot. Measuring the glue plug, I used a small belt sander mounted to a bench to reduce the flared base. Painters blue masking tape covered the top of the handle, teflon tape to keep the threads clear of glue. I dropped a coin (U.S. 25¢ piece) in to hold the knot just off the handle. A cardboard tube formed to keep the knot safe from stray glue. GE brand 100% Silicone applied into the ferrule, the knot pressed in. There was a slight compression of the bristles because the glue plug is set as deep as it would fit. Final dimensions; 27mm X 65mm loft. (Thank you Tom @twhite!)
You will really like that once the bristles break in some. My favorite setup right there. Enjoy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I do enjoy my current Omega 98. By pressing the knot deep into the ferrule I'm hoping for lots of scritchy break-in fun! I was holding out for a NOS style Flat Top Fan knot, but this is pretty close.
please don't judge ___ 8#4- 7#3- 4 no numbers ..... I've been swamped with work and i haven't been able to continue the restoration on these ( nor the 22 wade and butcher razors I've accrued ) but i have a feeling this summer i will pump these out lol
Wow, did you step in it all at once or been collecting for a while? Some of the original knots look usable!
I've been collecting for since I've acquired my grandfathers 400 and i started to restore it ( haven't finished yet ) ..... some knots are new some are newish , I've been salvaging what i can and making new knots out of the old one to restore them to original glory ( or close to it )
This info may have been posted before, but here is a web-page with a lot of info about the Rubberset 400 handles which seems like it would helpful with DIY projects using the handles. http://oldschoolshavingbrushes.com/rubberset_400.html
