I just received a very cool GIBBS Adjustable Razor in the mail today. It has a button on the bottom (like a pen) that pops open the top cap for blade changes.

I am really looking forward to seeing how it shaves. It is a substantial razor (83 grams) and appears to be very well made.

    Very nice Phil!

Does it take regular D/E blades? Seems I recall some of the Gibbs models took proprietary blades.

Thank you. Yes, this model takes standard DE blades. I plan to try the razor out tomorrow. :)

Let us know how it shaves, maybe a shave of the day picture?

Definitely. I will feature it for my next Monday "Mourning" shave where I use discontinued shaving items. ;)

It was a busy day and I did not get a chance to shave until this evening. It was worth the wait though as I took out the GIBBS adjustable for its maiden voyage. Because I had never used this razor before, I erred on the side of caution and set it at 2. I enjoyed a very smooth comfortable shave. One thing that really struck me was the audible feedback from this razor. If you think the Futur sings, you have not heard anything yet. ;)

How many adjustment settings does this have? How would you compare the blade gap to that of a Slim or Fatboy?

It has 6 settings. It is hard to compare as I only have one shave in but it is more aggressive than the Slim or Fatboy and is more similar to a Futur but with a flatter head. The adjustment too is more similar to a Futur or Progress in that there are not 6 definitive clicks/settings. You can set it anywhere between 1 and 6 (e.g., 2.5). At 2, it is fairly tame yet was very efficient.
