Today I picked up a vintage Seaforth shaving mug....in excellent condition. I have seen these from time to time on ebay...never gave them much thought. I haven't been able to find a lot of information on the brand. I believe this dates to early 1940s.

I took peoples advice and went back for the Black Beauty and found something to go with it.

Can anyone tell me how to date this particular BB? Every other Gillette i have has the date code on the bottom of the head. This one has a letter and number inside the head and a number on the bottom????

Not sure on the 1/3 question - I don't have any BB's that new.
The brush is either Surrey or VanDerHagen

I believe the number on the under side is the cavity that the base came out of the mold.
Go by the inside number and letter.

On a side note. That is the same year and quarter of my black beauty that I purchased new. My very first razor. Still have it.

    Tom

Really only looking for two things for myself. An ER 1909 and a Coticule stone. I just like the hunt now. If I find good deals I pick up most any type of razor.

I have a list of 4 people looking for birth years.

Not really a haul but I saved the cap from a frosting container which fits perfectly on my Old Spice shaving mugs. I finally got to try this tip out after reading about it in a thread here a couple years ago.

So you aren't looking for the OC Damaskeene anymore?

I went by one of the antique malls today (I may stop by the other tomorrow). They had very little. Two Gem flip tops (one push button, one star shaped handle), a 60's tech (looked like), a Pink or Orange/Brown Lady Gillette, and an autostrop. six straights, and a durham duplex in the leather snap case. The straights.... two or three of them were in decent shape, but nothing to scream about. One missing the scales. (one blade had been honed like heck on the tip and spine edge - but the other end was almost factory) Another location had an expensive set - it was 'Blue Steel' by H. L. Hill (I think it was an L). Prices were rather excessive. I just can't see spending $45 on a push button Gem, or $75 for the Blue steel. (It was in a double box, with another razor that had a bite out of the blade)

So, no Damaskeene or 1909. I'm keeping an eye out.
