I finished up on these brushes recently. Left to right:

    Ever-Ready C 40 with a Semogue 1305 knot

Made Rite 5 with a Semogue 1520 knot

Made Rite 300PB with a Semogue 1800 knot

The Semogue boars are among my favorites. I thought it would be neat to mount them in some old retro handles.

Those all look amazing! What technique did you use to get the old knot out? I have a 200t that I will be attempting to put a new knot in soon.

After trimming off the old knot bristles, I use my drill press with a 1/8th inch bit to drill several holes in to the knot. I then use needle nose pliers and a Dremel tool to completely remove the knot. You have to be slow and careful. One slip and you can ruin the handle's rim (I know and learned the hard way:(). Once the handle cavity is empty and clean, I measure how deep I want to mount the new knot. I also measure the diameter of the new knot and open the hole using sand paper as needed. Next I cut a wooden dowel to fill the cavity and pour in 15 minute epoxy. After all is set, I test fit the new knot and make any adjustments as needed. My preference is to use the 15 minute epoxy to set the new knot. Again, a note of caution. Too much epoxy in the cavity will cause the epoxy to seep out and ruin the knot (I know and learned the hard way:(). BTW, Semogue mounts the bristles in to the metal ring which makes mounting the knot much easier.

It is not difficult. Just take your time and think ahead for your next move during the process. Hope this helps. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

    Folks,

Thanks much for the kind comments. As a side note, Semogue produces eleven boar bristle brushes that can be found for less than $20.00 (not including shipping). In my humble opinion, and experience, the Semogue boars are equal to any other boar brush on the market in both quality and value. The consistency and quality is excellent. I have never encountered a shedder. They are nice for face lathering.

Attached is a pic of the 1520 first post-shave bloom. If you look closely, some tips split on the first shave. This will only get better.

    Again, thanks for your responses.
