I am new to DE razors, only 5 shaves in. I was wondering if anyone alternates the blade edges while shaving. It seems that this would maximize the number of shaves per blade. I can see where it would be easy to use only one edge during the shave.
I do that too. Then when I'm done, I rinse, strop on my forearm, and flip the blade to the other side for the next day's shave.
I shave one side of my face flip shave the other side then rinse. Repeat for my neck, then lather and for second and/or third pass. I figure that way I get equal use of the both sides.
I do the same. That's the way I learned how to shave. Make one stroke then turn the razor over and do another stroke. Good luck.
Not much to add. I do some strokes until one side has taken enough lather, flip, some strokes until the second side has taken enough lather as well. Rinse. Repeat.
I figure that it will average out over the life of that blade. I use a blade for 7 days and do three passes on each shave. On each pass its a 50/50 chance on which edge I will end up with from just randomly grabbing the razor. You can figure it out if you want, but I'm pretty confident that it's not worth the trouble.
Definitely still trying to break the habit of sticking to one edge the entire time - amazing how something so small takes so much concentration
What I will usually do is do a few short strokes then when it my lather "leveled off" I will flip it over and use the other side of the razor/blade. I also do not shave one while side at a time, but go back and forth. Anyone else do that?
