Right now, it's my wonderful Merkur 37C slant bar. It's taken over as my favorite razor, but I'll still use my 38C and Fatboy regularly. They need the attention.
I own three that are my go-to razors: a Gillette NEW head with a Sabi handle, a Lord Tech clone, and a Flare Tip Superspeed. If I need to shave fast I use the Superspeed. If I need a close shave I use the NEW. If I need something in between I use the Tech clone.
I don't have a go-to anymore, either, but for kinda the opposite reason to Steve's. I did have "one" razor for awhile (Shake Sharp) and haven't had or wanted an actual rotation for some time. But being in the habit of finding cheap razors almost every time I go out, they're always laying around the house so I get the impulse to use them - even just once - just to say I did. So now that I feel I have my technique down and can get (at least) a DFS out of any razor, my 'go to' is whatever is within reach...DE, Proglide, Hydro-Magic...whatever. I wouldn't call it a state of ennui, but I'm not sure what else to call it because it isn't bugging me.
I love Schick Injectors...all of them...the I2 is the only one I own at this time...it's like the one I learned on and my Pop used when I was growing up...But all the Schicks I have tried I love... For DE's it's easy...My Senator OC TTO just out shaves anything DE's I've owned...My '52 Steel Black Tip being a close 2nd...
For now, it's a Gillette Aristocrat. Next week or maybe tomorrow, it could be my Parker 22R or Merkur Progress. I don't know until I get the soap, brush out which razor I use.
My current go-to is the Cobra SE. My forever go-to, if all else fails, has been, is and will be the Merkur 11C open comb.
Lately anytime I've been using my 37C it's been having me question owning my other razors. Even my FatBoy and Slim Adjustable. It just....delivers. 100% of the time.
Actually makes me rather unhappy I missed out on the 37G, that was a beautiful razor. Too bad Merkur killed it
