Nothing new on the Pipe Front here. Still enjoying the Peterson and CH. I've consumed most all of my Premium baccy through the long Winter. With warmer dryer weather finally springing, work has picked up. Those P&C catalogs are right here at my elbow teasing me with smoky thoughts, but there's bills to pay. Soon...
It's occurred to me that in all the years I've been a member here, I've never posted any pipe pictures here. This is the first pipe I ever owned. A Stanwell 63 Majestic Vario. This is a freehand Danish made pipe with beautiful flame grain, designed by the late, legendary Sixten Ivarsson. I bought it new in 1996. It's aged a bit better than I have.
Gotta be careful around you guys. I've been blessed with an unexpected delivery by someone who knows my preferences. Peter Stokkebye Toasted Burley, Luxury Navy Flake, & Perique. Thank you Masked Man!
No picture but had a nice MM country gentleman loaded with a perique blend on the way to work. Makes dealing with traffic much easier.
Didn't get a photo, but I tucked a couple slices of Navy Flake in my pouch and grabbed up my rusticated Rossi Prince as I was headed out the door. It's a short bowl so half a slice folded and tucked provided a spicey peppery enjoyable change from Carter Hall of late. Took a few moments to enjoy the tin notes of my recent arrivals. The Navy flake is between beef or chicken bullion cubes & Lucky Charms breakfast cereal, in a good way. Toasted Burley brought me to fresh well browned bread, but just the crust and not the soft inner part. I shall enjoy a bit of it before I finish my day. Perique has a definite vinegar note, with the plum coming through, maybe a little ketchup, too. This is more fine cut than what I pick up at my local shop, and not near as wet. After researching this Louisianan specialty, and enjoying it as a condiment VaPer style or straight up, I'm curious about the different types of Perique. I suspect Acadian is most available. It's the nonspecific blend, where there are others from particular tobacco patches. Saving that for my morning eye opener, with a cup of dark roast coffee tomorrow.
Didn't follow my plan for today, but still enjoyed a couple tasty pipes. Stokkebye Toasted Burley in Chacom bent billiard. Not as nutty as Solani No. 656, but sweet and, well , toasty! A good bit of pepperiness to remind me I was enjoying it. Stokkebye Perique in Kaywoodie Magnum (stinger intact). The tapered bowl concentrates flavor? OK! If I'm going big flavor... Plenty of that deep richness that a straight up bowl of year long fermented leaf gives. Perique - it's not just for blending with Virginian.
I received my Pipe Smokers Forum 2017 POY today, so of course I had to start breaking it in. It's a Savinelli Tre rusticated canadian with a tortoiseshell stem from the Tortuga line. It's browner than I expected, I had the impression the Tre pipes were more of a black, and I prefer the brown so that pleased me. It smoked the maiden bowl of Chatham Manor down to ash.
Stokkebye Navy Flake in a big bore briar Schowa Selected. The Rossi Prince I used previously is both shorter and smaller on bore size. It would only comfortably hold half of a slice. This unit took a full load after I rubbed it up. Very much like OGS, and goes well with a cup of coffee.
