From today's shave I learned to never touch your face with the razor unless there is soap/cream there. The blade bit me. Definitely still learning so I'll take a small cut over a big any day. Lesson learned.
Honestly, I don't know. The only thing for me so far is stropping and learning to shave. The plan is to send mine out when needed the first year, until I am sure I wanna go all out on straights.
That's the easiest, best way to learn that lesson, unfortunately. Glad it was more learning experience than injury.
When I started with straights I jumped feet first in honing after being first taught by gssixgun. Honing is all part of the experience,Bama before you make up your mind about str8ts learn to hone first, for me honing is relaxing and fun...that will give you a more rounded opinion about str8ts. Or you can keep sending your stra8t's to be honed...just send in two shavers at first that way you have a honed razor to use while the other is being honed. If you already know all of this my apology.
Yesterday I learned that a G1 injector can mow through 48+ hours of beard growth with no issues. Today I learned that I need to add more M-bomb than I think to my soap to get the desired effect.
Several things: That Dorco 301s aren't a bad blade. And how to better grip the razor in a backhand stroke from right to left across my throat. And that as scary as it looks, all those teeth on the Old Type really won't bite if you treat it right.
I learned to go easier on the Rise Cooling Balm. It's tricky to get just the right amount in these tubes.
That's why I didn't care for those small Rise shaving gels. You feel it on your hand as you prepare your face for the shave, but then you realize you can't easily see what you just applied.
I learned I do not like Personna Blue blades, or maybe they don't like me. They just drug across my face and barely made any reduction.
Today for the first time I tried a Treet razor blade. Pleasantly surprised. Used it in my super adjustable on setting #3. I'll tell you no pulls no tugs, cut through really nice 2 pass shave with a buffered cleanup. Man am i smooth....what's up with that.
I learned that the initial impression of Voshkod blades was positive for me. I also learned that a sample of Soap Commander lasts for a long time. I've probably shaved with it 8-10 times and it still is going. I load up a lot of soap, too!
I learned that while I get great shaves from the Fatip when the blade is evenly exposed on both sides, it's really difficult to consistently get the blade evenly exposed on both sides.
Today I learned that Gem PFTE coated blades are far superior to other SE blades. Today was great - now I'm looking forward to seeing how many shaves I can get out of one blade.
I just finished with a Voskhod in my gold Contract...and directly went to the 'bay and ordered 100 more. Smooth, and didn't even get any redness from scrubbing my throat. I do believe I've had my closest to BBS yet.
I learned/confirmed that I want the sharpest blade possible for my Super Speeds. I've tried Feathers and really like them. I'm on the hunt for others to try.
I was reminded I have to continually watch pressure and not become lax. I ended up with a weeper on my chin today, not too bad, but it was from poor pressure.
