Final days of March - Just marking time March 30 Razor - '46-'47 Gillette Aristocrat Blade - Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - Tabac Post - Cold water rinse, Alum, Nivea Two days left in the month, I'm still sore from the move, I surrender to a couple of easy shaves with no purpose other than to look good for work. Just staying with the Aristocrat with the Ladas until April. Grabbed the BoS and Tabac this morning and had a nice three passes though I'm facing a bit of a challenge. I've decided to shave post-shower instead of in the shower in the new place, largely to conserve water a bit. I'm always one to take on conservation causes but now that I'm paying the water bill instead of having it provided I'm suddenly more aware. Imagine that. So, I have a bit of work to do to remember how to lather at the sink without the constant stream of water and humidity helping hydrate things. I said all of that to say that my lather was pretty dry this morning and while it was a nice three passes it could have been much nicer. I did improve on the second and third passes by paying attention to the amount of water I was using on my face and also adding a little to the lather. Funny how that little change makes such a big difference. Finished with a nice DFS and a bit of heat from the alum from the dryness. Cooled it off with Nivea and went to work for the first time since Friday. Back to the routine.
3/30/16 Gillette New LC Feather (3) Vulfix Super Badger (660) C.O, Bigelow cream Georgetown G12 Scuttle Pinaud Clubman Original Today I had my last shave of this focus. It was a more comfortable shave than the others with the Feather in the New LC. The Clubman stung a lot less. Of the 9 shaves with the New LC, 4 have been BBS, but after almost every shave the Clubman has stung like fire or close to it. I did not get a single BBS out of the Feather this month.
Wednesday Shower/Shave In Shower Prep- Noxzema for face, Old Spice Classic shower gel Pso-Homemade mint oil Brush- RazoRock Plissoft Razor-Gillette Slim on 7 Blade- Gillette Silver Blue Soap- Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Gondolier Thayers Witch Hazel AS- Old Spice Classic This shave had a couple firsts for me; first time with a GSB, first time trying the Slim on 7 and first time using the Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Gondolier soap. They all worked wonderfully together. I now know why the GSB is so highly regarded, very smooth but also sharp. I did 3 passes tonight with very little sting from the Old Spice and I ended up BBS. The Slim on 7 works great, I'm trying 8 tomorrow. I absolutely love this soap! Wonderful scents of Rose, Jasmine, Juniper & Cedar and it easily produced a great lather. This was a very satisfying shave. This was a trial run for next months focus. I wanted to try all my new items before committing to using them next month. I'm only using one razor, one type of blade, the same pre-shave routine and only one soap for April. I need to focus only on technique. I think I've found my tools for April. Have a great day folks!
March Focus Recap This month I decided to try 3 new blades that impressed me in February in 3 of my razors that haven't gotten as much attention as I'd like. The Gillette Platinum Plus, Wilkinson Sword, and Feather were all paired with my Birth Quarter Tech, Birth Quarter Super Speed, and the New LC. The Gillette Platinum Plus did best in the Tech with 2 out of 3 BBS shaves, but the Clubman burned like fire. The Wilkinson Sword gave me 2 out of 3 BBS shaves in both the Birth Quarter Super Speed and then New LC, but the Clubman stung a lot. The Feather didn't give me a single BBS, but it gave me several shaves where the Clubman stung like fire. I have to say that most of my shaves this month weren't that comfortable. Maybe it was because I was chasing the baby too much. I used Mitchel’s Wool Fat for the Birth Quarter Tech, then switched to the Chiseled Face Sherlock until l I pulled out the Proraso today for my last shave with the Feather. I hope to see you all in the next focus which I hope will end up being more pleasant. See you there!
just understand that "getting hell for it at the moment" is just part of the time-honored tradition here on TSD for new CT recipients. It'll subside in time. Unless you keep hitting the 'Like' button!!! (sorry just couldn't help myself.)
Also @Robyflexx I wish I had more time to read and pass out likes. Lots of good stuff to read and look at.
Come on, man! You know it's ruthless in here.... "President, Derby Fan Club" would have been my first choice for you, Robert.
Now that's just cruel to call someone that. Oh wait, my wife loves those blades. Which is why they are always in my inventory. Of course I'd never sneak one into an aggressive razor and get a great shave out of it.....nobody has pictures of that......so nobody can prove it.
90 Day Intro to SR Completed 30 March 2016 Finished the way I started, on the Aust. Great month guys! Back tomorrow with the April thread and a wrap up right here on this thread. Today's shave was DFS+, I didn't really try chasing. Super productive day out here on the prairie. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great Thursday!
It's gonna be interesting to use something else. I view straights as "normal" now. Spending April with safety razors should help clear up which method I'd rather use daily.
