I often mix the aftershave and witch hazel together. That goes on first followed by balm. I've used alum once and didn't care for it.
I make the time: Cold Water Alum (if necessary) Brush teeth You asked... Cold Water Witch Hazel Aftershave or Cologne
Warm towel to wipe away remaining lather and then apply thayers liberally. Clean/rinse scuttle brush and razor. Strop razor. Dry razor with micro fiber towel. Take a shower then apply aftershave while dressing. Everyday. Time permitting or not.
Cold water rinse* Either WH or and ASB Cologne *in the summer our city tap water doesn't get cold enough for my liking, so I'll rinse from the tap, then follow up with a splash of ice water kept in a bottle in the 'fridge. As far as "given the time," if I don't have time to enjoy my shave my way, that includes post shave, I don't shave.
Warm water rinse, to get the soap off. Cool water rinse, to close up the pores. Then one of my aftershaves.
Cold water rinse, wipe of soap with cold wash cloth, witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, aftershave, then cologne.
