I've been really busy lately trying to get my remodeling done and working to pay for it all. I recently got two ikon heads a 101 and a tech. The 101 is really mild so today I put a Gillette platinum in the tech. This is an aggressive razor to a point but it was easy to get the angle right and with a light touch I wound up with an extremely close shave after 2 passes. I'm hoping everyone else had a great weekend and a great shave!

    June 12 - LAZY SHAVE

Razor - '59 Gillette Super Speed
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Tabac
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, The Veg

If I hadn't had to work today this would have been a no-shave day. But, work called. I really feel like the pain stick is well under control and, being in a lazy mood, decided to not go through the effort today. Grabbed the old reliable Super Speed and threw a Rapira SS in it, lathered up Tabac with the Wolf and had just a fantastic two pass shave to near BBS. No touch up. No extra effort, just a great two pass that nearly caught the baby. Added the Veg at the end and headed off for a mellow day.

I think the Gillette Super Speed may be the best razor ever made. Now, I know the Aristocrat is probably better, as I love mine, but when it comes to day in, day out shaving, or needing a lazy shave, or a quick shave or anything like that, I don't think anything really beats the Flare Tip. My '47 is also fantastic as well. Very similar, of course, as all the Super Speeds were. I've never tried a blue or red tip and would like to acquire both, but something tells me the Flare Tip would still be my choice.

If you don't have a Flare Tip Super Speed in your collection I highly recommend it. Mine is a birth year, 1959.

    SUNDAY NIGHT SHAVE
    20160612_220417.jpg

    Prep: Occams crushed lime
    Razor: Gillette Red Tip
    Blade: Ladas (6th shave)
    Brush: Everready 600
    Soap: RazoRock Moroccan Secret
    Post: Osage Rub/ Lucky Tiger
    Balm: Reef Point Aviator

2 pass shave tonight, really love the old tallow RR soaps. They whip up a thick lather with a quickness, the scent of Moroccan Secret has citrus top notes, light scent but unique. Ended up with a bit of irritation but still a close shave. The Aviator balm has a nice leather scent and seems to be a nice clean masculine leather scent, rather than "dirty leather" or "saddle". Soothes the skin very well and has a nice menthol touch. Hope everyone had a great shave!

    Soap- Stirling Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo
Post Care- Thayers Witch Hazel with grapefruit EO and M-Bomb
    Nivea Sensitive AS balm

Another amazing shave tonight. I've been so busy doing honey-do's around the house I haven't shaved since Thursday. This was my second go with the Bunny and first time using Sterling soaps. First, the Bunny is wonderful. Three passes; WTG, XTG and ATG and I'm BBS everywhere. I could have stopped at the second pass and been left with a DFS but then I would have wasted all that beautiful Stirling lather. This soap lathered so easily, it was slick and protective and it left my face feeling great. The menthol chilled my face wonderfully, this stuff should be required for Phoenix summers. While strong, the menthol didn't make my eyes water or overpower the lovely scent of this soap. I'm officially hooked on Stirling. Have a great day folks!

    Brush: Semogue 1520 boar
    Lather: Ginger's Garden Salty Mariner
Post: Witch hazel splash, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG

Sorry, no pic due to travel. Late night shave due to vacation. Went with one pass only, WTG. Pretty good shave for one pass. Ginger's Garden provided some fantastic lather and the G1 was great as usual.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

    Razor: Hibco 2 piece
    Blade: 1/2 Personna Platinum Red
    Lather: Cremo Original
    Pre Shave Oil: Homemade
    AS: Gillette Gel/Brut Splash On
    Newspaper Date: Feb. 3,1944

Guess I``ll have to try something else. The Personna and Hibco just doen`t match. One of the worst shaves in a long time, irritations, scrapes, styptic. cold water "bath". A 2pass shave, WTG/ATG and XTG on 2nd pass. Nothing seemed to work, so back to the drawing board. I`ll have to shave a week with an injector for my face to heal. I`m thinking the J1 on 1st day and G4 the next 5 or 6, whatever I can get out of it. Good luck to the rest of you, and God`s speed.

Thank you, Paul. I appreciate that. I have 5 dogs, is there one in particular? I`ll still rotate them, just wondering if some people have favorites.

June 13 - What's the worst that can happen?

    Razor - Ball End Tech
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, Nivea

Well, I didn't expect to be putting that setup on the page today. I was pumped up and ready to go traditional straight today, starting it off a bit early and had decided to jump on over to the Gold Dollar 800. Something new and shiny on a day off shave to get it started right, or just butcher myself, whichever happens first. But, before we can get there, let's look at the weekly head shave.

My head shave is always an automatic success. My setup is and has always been the Merkur 23c with Astra blade, VDH Deluxe soap and boar brush. My technique is flawless and rarely if ever do I see any blood. This, however, would be the exception to the rule day. Now, quick background, as some of you know I have chronic pancreatitis....the main symptoms....pain, gastric distress, pain, and pain. One of my particular treats from this is the formation of a pseudocyst just off where the tail of my pancreas used to be. Nice little collection of fluids that comes and goes, causing more pain as it comes, less as it goes. I call it my evil twin. Well, it has been vocal lately and this morning was sitting on a nerve somewhere that radiates pain to my left shoulder. It happens, I'm used to it, and I have some meds to help with the pain that I take later on if the day if necessary. So, a bit distracted by that I suppose but not feeling worse than I have before so I'm good. Or am I?

Lathered up the right side of my head as always, pulled across the grain over my ear and then brought it up around my right ear with the other edge of the blade. Standard procedure. Went back XTG over the top of my ear, changed my direction in mid stroke, and, don't ask my why, added pressure and went for it. Oh yeah, that will cause a cut. And it did. Nice one. I'm swearing, wondering what that was all about, rinsed it, added a bit of lather and came up on another pass right behind my ear, neck to top. And gouged myself again. Now I'm thinking bad blade. It's a brand new Astra. Checked the razor, the blade, all looks good. So why am I bleeding from two spots?

Went ahead to the left side and managed to do my usual shave there, no other issues. I'm still confused, not sure what happened, questioning a thousand things and, thank heavens, I'm done. Off to the shower. Only I wasn't done. Totally forgot the dome. More cussing, already rinsed the brush, soap is closed up. I'm just going to Heisenberg it down. Hit the shower and even that didn't go well. Hard to get it smooth and ended with a really disappointing result. It's CCS but I'll have to do something with it before Wednesday and work.

I'm now feeling less than confident in anything I'm doing and go ahead and load the BoS with the Fat and take a long look at myself in the mirror. Let's think this over. I just butchered myself on a head shave, then forgot to finish it, then couldn't even get a good Heisenberg finish. Am I ready for this razor? Picked up the GD800 and gripped it, put it in place like I was going to set down and noticed just the slightest tremor. Yep, my evil twin is definitely to blame for this. Or at least he's getting the blame. No way am I putting a straight to this face today. I'm too good looking to risk it. :angelic007:

With my confidence in shambles and my heightened sense of how I really feel it's time to shift gears totally. I need a mild shave. Hmmmmm......Weishi? I said mild not kiddie mild. Ah, Ball End Tech and the safety of the glorious Voskhod. Grabbed them, lathered up with the Fat and after two very mild passes I had a nice DFS. However, on the second pass as I came XTG from my hear on the right side the razor somehow slipped in my hand, caught the edge on the corner and I felt it dig. You can stop cringing....the mild angle of the Tech kept the blade from touching. No blood. But more cussing. :angry032:

It's done, I'm happy with it for today, I'll deal with it tomorrow and plan on handling a straight tomorrow. I'm also thinking of switching to night shaves as I generally feel "normal" at night without the early morning rantings of my twin who always seems worse then. So we'll see about that. In the meantime, if there's a moral to the story......never be afraid to shift out of a shave, especially a potentially dangerous one, if you just aren't feeling it. Unless, of course, it's MAYhem, but we're 11 months from THAT! Have a great Monday!
