October 25 SOTD: Stirling Synthetic Brush MWF Gillette Diplomat Stirling Unscented PSB Clubman Vanilla AS What a shave this morning. It was number 4 on the Gillette Platinum Plus blade but the first in this razor. It was smooth. An easy DFS. The MWF was fantastic again, as was the Clubman Vanilla. A shave like this could become a go to type. I hope everyone has a great day!
Another great OCtober shave. SOTD Route 66 A Perfect Gent Soap Doug Korn Brush Adoration Razor Alum Thayers WH Pinaud Clubman AS Have fun!
October 25, 2016- Off-focus shave Razor: '48-'49 Gillette Milord Blade: Astra SP (2) Brush: VdH Boar Soap: VdH Luxury I think I've hit some kind of doldrums, maybe with the change in the weather. Anyway, I just wasn't feeling the OC today. Instead, I opted for mild and safe with the 40's SS Milord. Not as close as some of the shaves I've been getting lately, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I'm happy, anyway, and that's all that matters.
October 25 Razor: Cadet OC Blade: Crystal or Q Ball Brush: Maggard 24mm Soap: Stirling Gatlinburg Post: Cold water rinse, Alum block Another excellent shave with the Cadet OC. The crystal or q ball blade (I honestly don't remember which I grabbed, but since they are one and the same based on what @NCoxSTL and I both concluded after using them I guess it does not matter). The blade is very sharp and very smooth. Such a great quality, especially the smoothness when using the Cadet. The shave only had one hiccup when my wonderful, amazing, beautiful wife decided she needed to bang on the bathroom door right as I was about to set the razor down. I jumped, razor fell, toes barely escaped without incident. Might have to shave with shoes on in the future. Razor and blade both appeared fine so finished the shave without any further events. BBS and quiet alum. Not sure what my plan is for November. I got a super cheap shavette that I am thinking about giving a go. I got it along with a really cheap brush that I bought only because it was by the Justice Shaving Company and had the scales of justice on the brush. Unfortunately, when mine arrived the scales were not in the best shape. Oh well, for $6 for both I can't expect or complain too much.
OCtober Focus Redirected SV Dolomiti & B-400 Tuxedo Gillette FB at 9, Voskhod blade Alum and Canoe Aftershave Zig zagging my way into a Five day Focus to prepare for an Aggressive OC DE Fatip scheduled to arrive November 1st. Huh, should have been paying attention and pulled the trigger sooner. The AD's don't care what month it is. Fortunately I have the right razor to train up for the next one. I see a dichotomy; I was introduced to injectors via J1 Schick to B-V3. Now I've upped my FB game to Nine for an incoming Piccolo. Give me a couple more years and I won't need to try The Next One. "All razors are the same"? Taken as a broad statement, yes. It's the shiny details that catch my eye. Today's shave featured a fine Italian soap sample I received from Germany in a PIF by @Marverel , a brush handle crafted in Cali by @twhite fitted with a synthetic knot from Canada, a Japanese ceramic bowl, & a Russian blade in an American razor. Internationally great products combined with Techniques fine tuned right here for DFS+ results. Good Shaves Y'all!
If you want to try some SR Shaving PM me and I'll send forth my trusty first Dovo to you, but you pay shipping, or we could make a trade of some kind. I love my Dovos but sharing is so much of the fun as well. As for aD I did order the Nickel plated Piccolo. Dammit! The Maggard made OC can't be my only true OC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you for the kind offer! I started my Shave Odyssey over a year ago. I've been shavette to SR to DE to injector. I have been fortunate to enjoy the range from Vintage to new production and into Prototype razors not yet being manufactured. The Fatip OC is just my latest dip back into DE's. I can feel the urge to own a shavette again. I'll take my time, and work my budget such that I make an informed decision instead of jumping at the next shiny thing. Knowing I can let the Acquisition Disorders rule me, I'm trying to develop restraint. I still own a box o' SR's, a very nice strop, and a Barbers hone should I decide to get back to em.
Very nice. I have but 4 straights but don't plan on acquiring more. The ones I have work great. I'm a fan of the 5/8 and 6/8 hollow ground SRs. Like the DE the give a great audible feedback and will last a lifetime. That first Dovo is almost 20 years young and provides a great shave. The other is a new Silver Steel Prima and the last two are vintage. One Henckel and one Genco. We all must deal with the aD throughout most of our lives. I have a very wealthy college roommate who has so many rental houses, Vegas properties and exoticars. More money just means more expensive aDs. Enjoy your Tuesday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On the Burma Shave-yes, same one . I wish I had the "techie" in me to post photos-need some help doing it. And I never saw the "Look At All That Cheddar".
Yes, except for a using Mitchell's Wool Fat each Friday and then one Speick shave when I had to go out of town for a wedding. Otherwise all Stirling Barbershop!
well, now that it's colder, I'll be using my Stirling Barbershop more, but I don't know that I could go a full month. I like some variety.
Razor: Timeless Stainless Steel Open Comb w/Timeless Plaid Handle Blade: Gillette Platinum (5) Brush: Shavemac Zebra, Honeycomb 2 Band Soap: Jeeves Soaps Turkish Bath Aftershave: Captain's Choice Sandalwood A very close comfortable shave again. Changed to the Timeless Plaid Design handle today. It's an excellent handle both in length and balance.
Just saw the projected delivery date for my Clubman stuff(the new shave soap and the Kent Comb)...Oct. 28. Nice way to end the month.
