Great write up, reminds me of my days with the Feather SS. I switched to a CJB and then Feather DX and found them much easier to shave with, i.e. less blood thirsty. I really do not like the bump at the edge of the SS, I think it causes more problems rather than making it 'safer'. I recommend giving the CJB or DX a try. I ended up selling my SS.

January 11 - ho-hum continuation of PAL and brush focus

    Gillette Black Beauty on 3
PAL Gold Thin Hollow Ground carbon (8)
1930s Simms boar brush reknotted with 22mm Maggard black synthetic
The Eternal Tub of TOBS Avocado Cream ( croap )
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original

After reading SharptoothC's stirring saga of deadly adventure, I am almost ashamed to admit that today's shave was totally routine.

The Simms boar brush I reknotted performed very well. The Maggard synthetic knots seem to be very good quality, especially when you consider they cost under $10.00 shipped.

The PAL carbon blade was smooth and sharp on its 8th shave. It was very rough and tuggy on its first couple outings but has since settled into a fine performance. I give it a quick dry after each shave and see no signs of rust so far.

And there is no sign of any bottom yet to the Eternal Tub of TOBS...

I have been bad about shave posting the last few days. A couple of catch up shaves:

    -Nameless Shavette
    -Zenith Boar
    -Stirling Ozark Mountain
    -Stirling Ben Franklin Splash

I did NOT like using the Treet blade in this shavette. It felt sort of tuggy right out of the wrapper, and tuggy is when I hurt myself with these things. Shave went fine, but I did not push my luck.

If you happen to own both of these scents of software, don't use them together. My wife said I smelled like I had been sitting around a campfire smoking clove cigarettes all night.

    -PAL Injectomatic
    -Manhandled Woods 24mm Ubersoft II
    -Lavender Cream
    -British Stirling

I took a focus break yesterday, mainly because my PAL was giving me hurtful looks, I assume for ignoring it so much lately. My PAL is a she. I call her Danica.

    -Feather SS
    -Duke 3 in Pure
-Stirling Hot Apple Cider Soap and Splash

I really want to like this razor, but I'm not sure it's gonna happen. It is the only one of these razors that seems insistent on my giving up blood every shave. I am getting much handier with it, so I felt it start to dig in and let off, leaving just a scratch of sorts. I am certain a focus on this razor specifically would solve the problem, but I am not sure I even care to spend the effort when the Kai is virtually the same razor with none of the heartache/learning curve. We'll see.

    Have a good evening everybody.

That bump is exactly what gets me. Every time. I can't get a good angle.

Route 66, Magic, Voskhod and Plisson all excellent per usual. Face-lathered two passes for the DFS with the standard heroic finish. Alum was cool, and the skinfeel was excellent! Calm mild day on the prairie, another on tap tomorrow! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a nice evening!

Thank you, it is. Nikos from TSN and TSR sold it to me for a very fair price. I was quite lucky to find it.

You did well on that acquisition. I seem to recall him going through a den clearing.

Next brush in the brush focus is a brush I have struggled with... well just a little. It has a short handle so it gets soap on the handle and it is a lather hog. The next brush up is a Simpsons Chubby 2 in super. This knot is super dense and super soft, my problem is that doesn't like to release the lather.

I spotted the tub of Los Angeles Shaving Soap and it called to me. I forgot I really like the lather and smell of this croap. I was running late so I passed on the straight razor and loaded my Rocnel adjustable with a Rapira Swedish Steel blade and cranked it all the way open.

I loaded the soap like it owed me money and was two months late on the payment. That seem to be the trick and I had lots of great lather throughout the 4 passes. I really like this razor, heavy and aggressive when opened pasts it max setting. For the 4th pass I turned it down a couple of notches. Long lasting BBS but one tiny weeper and a tickle from the alum denied me the epic shave, still an awesome shave.

    Irritation A Closeness A+

Thanks, Jared. It is a '66 SS, so it predates me a few years. I would like to find a '75 at some point, but only if I stumble upon one now.

The nameless shavette has a great handle. Who doesn't like the smell of clove cigarettes?

At least you don't need to find a new aftershave. Even my lightest scented ones still have quite a bit of scent. I've never tried the Every Man Jack balm. I have some of the deoderant and enjoy the mint or the Amber scents.

I suspect I will regret not getting some Polsilver blades at some point, as the couple I tried worked well for me. But, I have more blades than I need for a few years! Glad you are enjoying them.

Too bad about the B&M Bay Rum. I have heard good things about it, and this is possibly the first time I have a mixed review of a B&M soap, at least other than the original Latha.

Thank you. I have a Thompson Center .50 that has a similar laminate on the stock, minus the blue. I was thinking it would maybe make a cool SOTD one day.

The way mine has been treating me, I might have to print that out and hang it in my bathroom.
