29 January 2017 Blade Focus Shave
Pre Shave- VdH Shave Butter w/hot towel
Blade- Gillette Silver Blue
Razor- Gillette NEW SC ca. 1932-1940
Shave Cream- Trumper GFT
Brush- Omega 6212
Bowl- Lenox Holiday pattern(don't give my bowl enough love)
Post Shave- Hot/cold rinse, Alum block, icy cold towel(twice), Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer
After Shave- Aramis. Herself is off today so I gotta smell right

We're coming down the home stretch. GSB was my pick until the Voskhod's and Green's came along. Today's shave was near BBS. But everybody is like that on a two day growth. The M-F shaves are what decides things, so we'll see. The GFT was it's usual lathery best. Alum was quiet, and the Aramis is smelling great.
It's gonna be a good day! Enjoy people of the Den! 1-29-17 Focus 007.JPG

Thank you Charlie. The Rum Runner has a very nice scent and like all the Route 66 soaps the performance is top notch. Like you I am trying to work through my soap inventory. It has gotten out of hand.

Razor: Early-50's English Tech
Blade: GSB (1)
Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
Cream: Simpson's Luxury Shaving Cream

Today's razor is another one from @Morman Bridge's recent PIF. It is an English Ball-Handle Tech from the early 1950's. From a distance, it looks pretty much like its American counterpart with a post-war-style baseplate and etched cap. The big surprise comes when you pick it up and realize that it is made of Aluminum (or Aluminium, as probably would have been said at the time). This makes for a light razor- definitely lighter than my Fat-Handle Pre-War Tech though not quite as light as my Sterling Tech. It is also my first English razor.

The Simpson's cream is from another recent PIF- this one from @Linuxguile and this is my first time using it. It is considered to be an unscented cream and, so, is right up my alley. Following the instructions, I face lathered using just a touch of cream on the tip on the brush. This worked out to be more than enough for two passes. I didn't really notice any scent from the cream (as opposed to the KMF which does have a distinct base scent even without additional fragrance).

I was working on two day's growth and portions of the shave seemed a bit rough which was a surprise. I'm not sure if this was a blade issue, something in my technique, or perhaps a bit more aggressiveness from the razor. No matter the case, I ended up with a nice DFS with no issues.

Yes I do. I honed this one yesterday. Glen has a good video on it.

Thank you, Charlie. So far it gets two enthusiastic thumbs up. It just feels easy to hold onto, and it sure seems to have a way more varied effective angle compared to the Feather.

It was well worth weaseling out of my NB for, considering how early it is in the year. I'm still not buying anything, but at least I'm happy with what I'm spending the rest of the year with.

I like that!! I can only "reply" to this by describing in sentence form the funny and classy sign in the barbershop I go to(the 3 barbarettes). It says "WE REPAIR HOMEMADE HAIRCUTS".

I don't want my rotation to get out of hand. That being said, I plan to do a Stirling "package order" soon as result of the 4 sample aftershaves I have-well, it's down to 2 now. Not sure if I'll do an A.S. and matching soap, or 2 aftershaves. I'll fit'em in somehow, though.

lol.....oh, there comes a time in a man's life when he likes to have his hair cut by ladies who know men's styles. Y'know, in the 5 or 6 years I've been a customer there, I haven't seen any women come in(except to bring their young sons).

Guys, all of this just dawned on me.....

I made a purchase last year from Adam (@Drygulch) that included some soaps and aftershaves. In the mix was the fateful bottle of Osage Rub that he went nuts with eventually leading to his CT.

I recently made a trade with Jared (@PickledNorthern) for the Osage Rub. He is now the proud owner and user of the fated bottle.

Jared - hopefully it treats you better than it did for Adam! Funny provenance for sure.
