It is common knowledge that Chris is a groovy guy. He is the grooviest Samurai in Alabama... well in Colorado.
March 3, 2017AlumiGoose V1 with Triad SSFeather Pro (6)Rudy Vey Rover with TGN FinestReef Point Dragon’s Blood Another very nice close shave to end the work week. The Reef Point soap is easy to lather, Maybe not as easy as Route 66 soaps but still easy. The scent of Dragon's Blood just feels the room while face lathering. Since I had the time, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave this morning while paying attention to my trouble spots as I went. After very minor touch ups, I ended with near perfect BBS shave. I finished off the shave with a splash of Floid Blue. I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday.
March 2, 2017 Razor: J2 Gillette SuperSpeed Blade: German Wilkie (4) Brush: Diane by Fromm Boar Cream: Simpsons unscented Like many great shaves, this one had just enough going against it that it could have turned out badly. First, there was the brush. The Diane brush was an impulse buy from a local beauty store which now resides in the shadow of an Ulta. (FYI, this was the same place where I found the Marvy brush.) It's a Chinese-made brush with a slightly scruffy looking knot but seems decently solid. It even comes with a six month guarantee. The razor is the one I started this journey with. Those of you who actually read by ramblings may recall that, some time ago, it literally fell apart when one of the end caps came off during a cleaning. Suffice it to say that I finally figured out how to put the end cap back on and this was the test of my handiwork. The shave itself began with me overloading the brush. This, of course, made it harder to get the water ratio right and while I thought I had done so, I still had to stop a couple of times to open and unclog the razor. Lather issues aside, the hardware held together well enough and my technique held up enough to end up with a near-BBS with no blood or unusual irritation.
Day 9 of 30 days of straights I had three tests today, all of which I believe I passed. First test: This was a 4/8, instead of a 6/8, which I had assumed shaved differently. It does a little bit, the 4/8 seeming easier with which to hold the angle. No problems adjusting to the different blade. Second test: This is a square nose, as opposed to a round nose. I found no difference at all other than it was significantly easier to get the whiskers directly under my nose. Third test: This razor was received yesterday in decent condition. I refreshed the edge on an extra-fine and an extra-extra-fine stone before stropping. The blade turned out to be as sharp as the last razor I was using (shave-ready by Whipped Dog). This tells me that I may actually know how to refresh a blade. Overall it was a DFS with three very small weepers, all in the same area. DIY Pre-shave Oil MDC Face Lathered 30mm High Mountain White set an extra 10mm deep 3 passes, WTG, XTG, XTG 4/8 Hadoson square tip After 9 days I have come to the conclusion that it is possible for mere mortals to shave with a straight.
That's the great thing about March Madness. Sometimes the underdog surprises you and wins. Gonna do a day 2 with the Sputnik and see if it holds its ground. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I tend to bloom my Route 66 with a small amount of water and go at it with a fairly dry brush and dip the tips until I get it where I want it. Too much water and it gets the runs. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
3 March 2017 TGIF Blade Focus Shave Last day for the Voskhod/Parker 99r combo. Due to it's fine performance this week(and the fact I've got 200 in my den), the Voskie is the blade of choice for the 99r. Still not a lock for joining the rotation. I'm gonna wait to see what awaits at the fleamarket this Spring. Anyway, today's shave was 2.5 passes using TOBS Coconut Luxury Shaving Cream. Great lather provided by the 10098. The alum was a little barky in the neck area where the half pass took place. Cold towel and Dominello Vitali took care of it. A splash of VIBR and my Friday was underway. This was my last Focus until I get the Travel Razor I won in the raffle. I just want to thank you guys for all the knowledge I picked up here as well as the laughs. I'll be over at SOTD, but I'll be looking in here as well. TGIF!
March 3,2017 Birth year SA w Voskhod (1) TGN Synthetic/Mahogany Handle Soap Commander Endurance Thayers B&M Classic Spice First day of the SA focus. The Soap Commander created its usual volume of slick lather with this Synthetic. This was my first time using an adjustable of any kind. I put the setting on 3 and didn't change it for any of the passes. Will experiment with settings over the next few weeks. I found 3 a mild setting. Ended up with a smooth, if not super efficient, shave after 3 passes plus touch ups. A lot of work to do technique-wise with this razor. Finished with a splash of Classic Spice. Have a great day all!
Razor: Supply Provision Custom 3 dot head Blade: Chick Brush: RazoRock Tri-color Soap: TTFFC Devils Cut Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Osage Rub Alum Aftershave: TTFFC Devils Cut Disappointing shave today. The lather was great; nice slickness, easy to lather but something in it irritated my face badly. I pushed through one pass and called it quits. I really like the scent so that just adds to the disappointment. The aftershave didn't bother me. I recently enabled a co-worker into wet shaving so I'm going to give him this set as a welcome gift as he really likes the scent. Hopefully it doesn't bother him. Have a great day folks!
