I tend to bloom my Route 66 with a small amount of water and go at it with a fairly dry brush and dip the tips until I get it where I want it. Too much water and it gets the runs. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
3 March 2017 TGIF Blade Focus Shave Last day for the Voskhod/Parker 99r combo. Due to it's fine performance this week(and the fact I've got 200 in my den), the Voskie is the blade of choice for the 99r. Still not a lock for joining the rotation. I'm gonna wait to see what awaits at the fleamarket this Spring. Anyway, today's shave was 2.5 passes using TOBS Coconut Luxury Shaving Cream. Great lather provided by the 10098. The alum was a little barky in the neck area where the half pass took place. Cold towel and Dominello Vitali took care of it. A splash of VIBR and my Friday was underway. This was my last Focus until I get the Travel Razor I won in the raffle. I just want to thank you guys for all the knowledge I picked up here as well as the laughs. I'll be over at SOTD, but I'll be looking in here as well. TGIF!
March 3,2017 Birth year SA w Voskhod (1) TGN Synthetic/Mahogany Handle Soap Commander Endurance Thayers B&M Classic Spice First day of the SA focus. The Soap Commander created its usual volume of slick lather with this Synthetic. This was my first time using an adjustable of any kind. I put the setting on 3 and didn't change it for any of the passes. Will experiment with settings over the next few weeks. I found 3 a mild setting. Ended up with a smooth, if not super efficient, shave after 3 passes plus touch ups. A lot of work to do technique-wise with this razor. Finished with a splash of Classic Spice. Have a great day all!
Razor: Supply Provision Custom 3 dot head Blade: Chick Brush: RazoRock Tri-color Soap: TTFFC Devils Cut Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Osage Rub Alum Aftershave: TTFFC Devils Cut Disappointing shave today. The lather was great; nice slickness, easy to lather but something in it irritated my face badly. I pushed through one pass and called it quits. I really like the scent so that just adds to the disappointment. The aftershave didn't bother me. I recently enabled a co-worker into wet shaving so I'm going to give him this set as a welcome gift as he really likes the scent. Hopefully it doesn't bother him. Have a great day folks!
I have seen some comparably priced. I tried it again today in the Tech, paired with Barbasol Extra Moisturizing and Florida Water. Man, that's such a good shave. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Another beautiful brush Jason. You really do great work. Looking forward to follow along on your SA focus this month.
Another winner of a shave, featuring the Rte66 Cavendish soap followed by Clubman Special Reserve. I do have to admit to forgetting to angle the 65-Slim, so the Deuce once again had to come to my rescue. I'm also preparing my brush a little better now(more time under the hot tap water).
You're doing it right. The idea is to advance until you get your best shave with that razor. If 3 is too mild, notch it up next shave. Keep advancing until you get too aggressive, then fall back one setting. Using a Fat Boy I settled at 5 for a long time. On suggestions from @Bama Samurai & @NCoxSTL I upped my game while Focusing on angle of attack (ride the cap!). Now I take first WTG pass at 9, and adjust down to 6 for the rest of the procedure. Great reduction, low irritation. Get your technique down at lower setting and you will triumph over your tools.
It is very nice to be home again. I took a nice leisurely shave this morning and am heading into the office late. I'm smooth and smelling of Clubman. Look out world! Stubble Trubble Pirate Cowboy Soap Doug Korn Brush Portland Razor Company Siren Lucky Tiger Pinaud Clubman AS Happy Friday!
I think trying to get too aggressive too soon is a problem at times. The technique is the same so when you go from mild to aggressive in steps as you develop technique it just gets easier and flattens the learning curve. Baby steps. Or, at least, short ones.
