Random technique hijack: Slant Razors, cool! What do they do? How do they cut more efficiently without changing stroke pattern? Couldn't a simple grip orientation adjustment turn any DE into a Slant? And now, modern razor makers with their "je ne sais quoi", and those with a new slant on a reliable physics concept.
Awesome April 2 April 2017 Day Three - The Arko Challenge One more Voskhod edge to a DFS, 28 great shaves remaining in April. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a great Monday morning!
And on days when only a subtle damp newspaper smoldering barrel fire will suffice...it's my top choice. Actually, WH aroma is the one thing that I intensely don't care for in shave world. And yes, it's quite subtle, but it smells like a damp fire to me, and if I am going to smell like smoke on purpose...only the finest Virginia Flake Tobaccos make the cut.
I am a Latakia and perque guy myself. But with the witch hazel the thayers scented ones kill off that scent. Or so I seem to remember.
Yeah, no Latakia here. I like the Navy style, many have Perique involved. Orlik Golden Sliced is most often smoked choice. Have a thing for aged Burley like Wessex and Solani 656. I don't do flavored American Burley aromatics. Rum is where I draw the line. Syrian Latakia is over for now, and that kinda stinks. It's important to many well regarded English mixtures. War has gone on too long now, there are no growers left.
I hope cypress keeps putting some out. I have not tried to many blends. I am good with good ole prince albert as an everyday pipe. I mostly smoke dominican maduro cigars.
Indeed. I got my local store to stock some casa de garcia maduro in that size for me. I smoke coronas some too. Really I smoke all sizes of those.
Focus for April will be SEs for 30 days, primarily a Micromatic Clog-Pruf. May throw in an OC or Contour for some variation, but singles all month. Got an AMAZING BBS the other day with the Clog-Pruf and some Tabac, so I'd like to finally get serious about honing my skill with all these. Focus, focus, focus...
April 3, 2017Wolfman WR1 OCFeather (2)Doug Korn DK7 with Druida ManchurianNuavia Rossa Weekends are entirely too short. At least I had a great shave to start the work week. The Rossa is very easy to whip into a rich slick lather. The scent is of the soap feels the room and adds another element to the morning shave. Three passes and minimal touch ups provided a near BBS shave which is more than good enough for a work morning. I hope everyone has a great Monday.
April 3 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush Stirling Frozen Tundra Ikon X3 Slant w/Maggards MR5 Stirling Unscented PSB Kramperts Finest Frostbite AS It was a terrific shave with the Ikon X3 thus morning; really the best I have had with this razor. I got two passes in for a DFS+. The baby was probably within reach, but I was running short on time, so I didn't chase. It was definitely a great start to my Monday. I hope everyone has a great day!
SOTD April 3, 2017 Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Schick adjustable injector Brush: Jayaruh boar Lather: Proraso Green Post: Witch hazel splash, Barbasol Pacific Rush aftershave WTG, touch-up Nice menthol edition this morning. Good shave with the Schick Adjustable and Proraso Green. The little Jayaruh boar worked well and the Barbasol has a nice menthol punch packed in. Nice way to start the work week. Have a great day!
Jared, Great suggestion! I love all the Black Art of Shaving stuff you guys either have learned or instinctively know. Great advice I would not otherwise get had I not joined this group. All, all the advice over these last couple months have been awesome. Thank you all.
