Yeah, no Latakia here. I like the Navy style, many have Perique involved. Orlik Golden Sliced is most often smoked choice. Have a thing for aged Burley like Wessex and Solani 656. I don't do flavored American Burley aromatics. Rum is where I draw the line. Syrian Latakia is over for now, and that kinda stinks. It's important to many well regarded English mixtures. War has gone on too long now, there are no growers left.
I hope cypress keeps putting some out. I have not tried to many blends. I am good with good ole prince albert as an everyday pipe. I mostly smoke dominican maduro cigars.
Indeed. I got my local store to stock some casa de garcia maduro in that size for me. I smoke coronas some too. Really I smoke all sizes of those.
Focus for April will be SEs for 30 days, primarily a Micromatic Clog-Pruf. May throw in an OC or Contour for some variation, but singles all month. Got an AMAZING BBS the other day with the Clog-Pruf and some Tabac, so I'd like to finally get serious about honing my skill with all these. Focus, focus, focus...
April 3, 2017Wolfman WR1 OCFeather (2)Doug Korn DK7 with Druida ManchurianNuavia Rossa Weekends are entirely too short. At least I had a great shave to start the work week. The Rossa is very easy to whip into a rich slick lather. The scent is of the soap feels the room and adds another element to the morning shave. Three passes and minimal touch ups provided a near BBS shave which is more than good enough for a work morning. I hope everyone has a great Monday.
April 3 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush Stirling Frozen Tundra Ikon X3 Slant w/Maggards MR5 Stirling Unscented PSB Kramperts Finest Frostbite AS It was a terrific shave with the Ikon X3 thus morning; really the best I have had with this razor. I got two passes in for a DFS+. The baby was probably within reach, but I was running short on time, so I didn't chase. It was definitely a great start to my Monday. I hope everyone has a great day!
SOTD April 3, 2017 Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Schick adjustable injector Brush: Jayaruh boar Lather: Proraso Green Post: Witch hazel splash, Barbasol Pacific Rush aftershave WTG, touch-up Nice menthol edition this morning. Good shave with the Schick Adjustable and Proraso Green. The little Jayaruh boar worked well and the Barbasol has a nice menthol punch packed in. Nice way to start the work week. Have a great day!
Jared, Great suggestion! I love all the Black Art of Shaving stuff you guys either have learned or instinctively know. Great advice I would not otherwise get had I not joined this group. All, all the advice over these last couple months have been awesome. Thank you all.
3 April 2017 Menthol Monday Blade/Focus Shave Day two of the 7 o'clock Black Focus. Proraso Green was the cream of choice this morning. On a sad note, the tube finally ran out. After a moment of reverential silence the empty husk was consigned to the round file. This tube lasted about 11 months. It was the first big boy cream I purchased after starting wet shaving last April. After my Omega 6212 whipped the Green into a great lather, a 2.5 pass shave ensued. I've gotten good at the two and a half pass. The half is for my neck, the hair of which grows every which way. The XTG takes care of anything that isn't picked up by the WTG or the ATG. A splash of Green A/S and another Menthol Monday is in the books. Next week, C O Bigelow takes over the MM watch. The olfactory portion of the shave was wasted today, as I'm still fighting this cold and can't smell a thing.
Thanks! Chris, you also have been big time instrumental in my success and enjoyment of wet shaving. Much appreciated Sinsei!! As for Arko, I need to use it more to tune it. I have used Stirling almost all March. I like you for SR, like a thick lather. It just feels good going on. I am not too concerned with seeing where I am since I shave everything and the 34C is very mild. I will get into today's shave later but suffice it to say, it was a wetter shave than I normally do and the results..... you'll have to wait for the posting!! Thanks again Chris.
April 3 Gillette Old Type w Sharp Star (2) First Canadian Maximo Gomez Cuba TGN Finest Fan/Maple Handle Thayer's Unscented Barrister's Reserve Spice AS 2nd day of the Canadian Old Type focus, day 2 with this Sharp Star. Face lathered a nice lather with this great smelling soap, rode the cap and did a 3 passes plus touch up with this Old beauty. Face feels perfect, but can feel some minor stubble left only when I rub my hand ATG on my neck. Have some redness on my neck again, but not as much as yesterday. Finished with the Reserve Spice, a fantastic AS. Overall, a fine shave. Lots of technique work to be done! Today's knick knack is an antique music box that plays a song when you pull the bottle out for a shot. Somehow appropriate as I return to the office after vacation. Have a great day all!
