    Been awhile...

No internet since Thursday (THAT was fun dealing with AT&T), and then just staying off the internet, but several successful shaves with the straight. I've got WTG down pretty well on the cheeks, and not afraid to do it on the neck (though how much is being cut is questionable).

So I'm thinking about working on a new direction with the blade.

Hope everyone is enjoying their week.

    Wednesday shave

Today's razor, a J western grind was touched up on a Zulu Grey. The edge was smooth and sharp. In a lapse of attention, I gave myself a small nick but otherwise completed the four passes without blood. Just a tickle from the alum and smooth face.

    Trials and Tribulations

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (3)
    Blade - super-max-blue-diamond2.jpg (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - WCS Synthetic
    Post - Alum

I may be on vacation but I still maintained my usual shaves for a Tuesday. Head shave first with a 23c and Astra then the first shave of a Trial with the Super-Max Blue Diamond Titanium. My wife gave me a bit of a hard time about shaving since I'm off work but I explained head shaves get more difficult with more days between shaves. Although it would be a good excuse to try a head shave with a TSR. I've used the pain stick a few times but never a traditional straight. Yep, I'm thinking.

The Super-Max Blue Diamond is up for trial. It's a titanium coated stainless blade and, as you can see on the wrapper, is made from imported special Swedish steel. What's so special about the Swedish steel? Is it different than the Swedish steel used in the Rapira Swede? Does it glow with magical fairy dust? Does it talk like the Muppet's Swedish Chef? Does it float in midair as it drops into place in the razor? Well, I didn't notice any of those things so I'll stick to what I did notice.

The blade is smooth but not the sharpest by a bit. With the Fatboy in mild mode I had a time getting to DFS on two passes and touch ups. I made it, but it's nothing special. With the overall feel, though, I suspect it will shine over the next couple of days. Or, it will be dull enough to be a "meh" kind of blade. It has that possibility as well.

Again, as with the Super-Max Titanium, no sign of extra irritation on my part due to titanium exposure so that's good. I'm hoping it will step up its game on the next shave to keep it in good graces with its cousins, all of whom have been quite high on the shaving satisfaction list.

Finally got to the Post Office today and got 100 Russians out of mail jail. Very quick shipping time, actually, as this batch of Sharp Stars came through St. Pete's on their way instead of Moscow. Considering how far East of Moscow they started it was pretty impressive actually. I noticed the seller is stamping his labels with "Russian Shaving House" and it looks like he has some Russian soaps/creams available now too. Going to have to look into that. He had offered a gift with the Sharp Stars as he did last time. Last time he sent an extra tuck of a couple of Rapira brands. This time only one tuck and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Lord?! Maybe he's trying to branch out in his newly named shop.

He sent me Lord Platinums a few months ago on my Sharp Star order as well. Lord blades coming from a Russian vendor seemed strange to me...

Lynn Abrams is a stable one. Trust his videos and don't forget to keep the spine on the hone when moving the blade.

I'd up the ante and shave on a radio tower - much higher and they tend to sway and circle in the wind at height. Now THAT'S a MAYhem worthy shave!

Well it does bring my total bulk packs of Sharp Star to 7. An auspicious number for the Solstice. Actually, looking up at my wall at the open pack there are 70 on that card. So 770 Sharp Stars in the house at the moment. Now we're onto something.

Greetings gents! I am having an eye issue again. Mostly just a PIA, and it will be OK.. But I am slacking on taking photos and typing at night for a bit.

    Greetings from middle age, methinks.
