I had the Midnight Stag, but at the wrong time of year-dead of summer. As you said I wanted to like it, but I knew it would be a better feel during the winter.

I agree! Excellent food in Asheville. We had a fine meal at Rhubarb while on that trip. Really fantastic.

Another very good shave this morning. The lather was a bit more airy than I prefer. The soap is all on the edges of the container and was just harder to load. Moved the soap to the center of the container so I won't have the same problem next time. Another fantastic two pass shave this morning. I did reapply lather to my lower right neck for touch ups. Overall a solid A+ shave with no irritation or weepers. I finished with a splash of F&C Shambala. Trying to decide if I should go into the office today or not. Since I have nothing pressing, I might just enjoy the extra day off. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Well, with 28 days left in the month, I announce that the survey result is "Too Early To Call". but DE Razor blasted out of the gate for a 16 pt. lead.

I'm not certain that there's going to be a "right time" of the year for me with Midnight Stag. Oh well. There are a million other products to try. That's just part of the fun!

I've seen that place, and looked at their menu. It sounds very good, just haven't made it to that one - yet...

Monday July 3 - change Focus and dance

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
    Jason's Cypress w/ Maggards 2-band badger
Kent / MWF in wooden bowl
Alum and... Nothing, cause I forgot the Postshave Product

This month I was going to focus on trying out and using up my box of soap and cream samples - 19 including the Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus mini-puck. And also concentrate on dialling in my brand new badger brush. However, after about 2 1/2 solid months of sampling new-to-me tubs of creams and then soaps, when I opened my sample box today, I found I just couldn't hack the thought of another month of everchanging strange soaps.

So I put the sample box away again and instead I am going to focus on two soaps, one I haven't used much to learn the quirks of and alternating with it one I know extremely well -- Mitchell's Wool Fat to learn and my Italian soft almond frankensoap to relax. I will also throw in occasional uses of the Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap for a bit of variety and to use up that puck.

Since I am concentrating on dialling in The Fat, I will use not only my new badger brush but also my three or four other daily drivers -- the 30DC LE Maple Cashmere synthetic, the Supply Provision synthetic, the Alluminati Envy White badger and the Omega B+B Essential Boar.

Today I started by bowl lathering The Fat with my new Cypress Badger.

I have gotten good lathers and decent shaves the previous two or three times I used my Kent/MWF. I have also never found it necessary to bloom the soap, finding that rubbing a damp brush on the puck for awhile always loaded enough product. A bit of water in the bowl would get a lather going, and slickness and protection were good but not fabulous. In short, I thought I knew the soap.

Today, thinking of comments I've read about The Fat in the Thread, I added three times as much water as usual -- and got much slicker although somewhat runny lather. So for the second pass, I added even more water to the bowl ... and the lather absorbed it. I found slickness started to fall off - the razor began almost squeaking and sticking to my skin during strokes - but protection didn't. I ended up with a near BBS without a single mutter from the alum anywhere. And after forgetting to use any postshave products, my skin feels very clean, smooth and soft.

Clearly I still have some experimenting to do with this soap.

Good point-I suppose a lot depends on the climate. I loved the fragrance, but with the humidty, it appeared that the fragrance poured right off my face.

No. Just both are barbershop type scents and I thought the went well together. The definitely smell very different, but are "complimentary" in my opinion.

ahh...OK. It would be something to assemble ALL barbershop scents(there must be many, from all the companies) and compare.

My goodness-15 pages in, and I haven't announced my "focus". I'll be continuing to watch for the care of my brushes, as was my June focus, but with the humidity creeping in, most of my shaves will be the "canned variety" so the brushes will get a good rest. I do figure to do a brush shave once in a while though(with my Fields&Streams, and might get the Williams going, too)throughout the hot months of now and August. As I said in a previous post, I want to get on the "Williams/Aqua Velva Bandwagon", just to see how good it claims to be. I expect to make good use of my artisan aftershaves(L&L Grooming Marshlands and Stirling Sandpiper w/menthol), but more often with the canned "goo(dness)". I figure with 4 aftershaves for the summer months(2 vintage, 2 artisan)plus the 2 soaps to use once in a while, it should be a comfortable hot season for me. Thus, another month of mix&match and brush-care.

That's a reoccurring thought. First you have to define just what the barbershop scent is. No easy task. I found these discussion here at TSD.

What is meant by a barbershop scent?

There were three other threads from years ago that had similar themes.
