I agree. Either they made different specs or just the tolerances varied a lot. The Old I had was much milder than a New LC.
I Have heard of a few newer OLDs that were thought of as milder. The older ones all seen to feel aggressive.
I'm going to guess that a lot of folks are afraid of worsening handle cracks in Olds and therefore shave at a more aggressive setting than with the handle fully tightened. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I had one with the thick cap and it wasn't very aggressive. Not as mild as a Jagger 89, but definitely very far from R41 territory. I also had a Goodwill #164 that Gillette used a really thin cap like those on the earlier olds. It was also a medium aggressive shave. If your fingers are thin enough hold the top threaded piece of the handle while you tighten it, not the tube itself.
I still don't buy into the belief that blades chatter or flex during the shave, provided things are tightened up as they should be.
