Great thank you I think my wife and I will now try our hand at restoring them Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk
Great haul!! Congrats! If you haven't done it before, try Scrubbing Bubbles (the stuff without bleach). It does a great job getting rid of soap scum and dirt. Just soak them for a little bit, then use a toothbrush (preferably not one you or your wife use ) on them. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, they can be helpful as well. I find that after Scrubbing Bubbles and some scrubbing, it takes the bulk off. The ultrasonic does loosen some crud in areas that are tougher to reach.
Not shave related, but stopped in thrift store and scored a couple Duralex Gigogne glasses and enjoy some wine with the wife. They're not expensive, but great quality French made stackable, and durable glasses. Keeping life simple is such a blessing!
As I stated in post #555 I went out hunting for razors Saturday morning and scored these fine razors out in the wild at what I thought was a good price. I got the two techs and the MMCP for $8 a piece and the 40s Style SS for $12. I had just got home when my son had put dibs on the Clog Pruf. I told him not until I tried it out first. I think I paid extra for the soap scum. Here is a pic that show the underside a little better. The techs have plate loss issues but they are PIF razors to get some of my co-worker converted over to wet shaving. Spreading the joy of wet shaving. After some scrubbing bubbles and an ultrasonic bath with dawn soap I think they cleaned up really nice. That a little MAAS they look good. In IMHO. Can anybody tell me what the two techs are? The first one with the OC I believe was gold plated but after the cleaning is now two toned, copper and brass/gold colored. I kind of like the contrasting colors to be honest. The second is a ballend tech I believe but from when? Is there any way of telling?
The first one is not a tech at all, it's a New Short Comb. The second one is a post war ball end tech. Congrats! They look great!
The OC one is not a Tech. It is a New Long Comb (LC) with a common bar handle. It's a later one, hence the "reissue" patent. The second is a post-War Tech. There's no date code, so it's pre-1950 but hard to pin down beyond that.
That ball end Tech was made somewhere between 1945 and 1950. Nice mild razor. That Super Speed is a great razor; I could use one the rest of my life and be quite happy.
I don't know gentlemen, I think @John Ruschmeyer may be right right on this one. If you look at the picture of mine from before clean up verses a picture I found HERE that shows the LC and SC beside one another mine looks a lot like the LC.
