Thank you, Jared. The first few shaves I had with the Big Ben blades, I didn't like them much. This time around, they aren't too bad. This blade has been pretty smooth. I am not sure I would by them in bulk, but they definitely work.

Great setting and photo. I bet the soap and aftershave work very well together.

Late post, as my shave was this morning....

Sticking with Gillette adjustables and Arko (and Astra blades).
This is the closest I've gotten to a "rule"! I do switch between a Slim and a Fat Boy, though.

Lately I've been shaving daily, rather than skipping a day between. No good reason...just for the enjoyment of shaving I suppose. Normally I don't get decent results if I don't skip. But, I've been working on "riding the cap" and skin stretching. It truly seems to be making a difference. Almost 12 hours later and my face is still fairly smooth. Not normal for me! Today I did a "rush job" - a XTG and ATG, since there wasn't too much growth from the previous day...and had things to do. Yeah, a few weepers, but a very close shave. Riding the cap seems a tad awkward for me, however it's getting less so. I do think my angle might be too steep at times. It'll get there!! Practice and patience....

Sorry for the rambling! Hope everyone had a great day and that the evening is great as well!

I think so. In fact I'm thinking it's time to break my focus as this is getting boring. I'm finding that I actually prefer face lathering with MWF, but can still get it to work in a bowl. It will probably never be my favorite, but will stay in the rotation.

    Adjustable (Arko) August!!!

August 14 - Grand Blade Trials

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (3)
    Blade - dorco-titan-stainless.jpg (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum

A Dorco blade I've never tried. The Titan. Nice, bold, invigorating name for a blade. Double coated stainless blades, and the double coating is apparently both stainless and platinum. I suspect they developed this blade to market in a specific geographical area. Either that or they are just trying to attract more attention. I find it interesting that they are a DE blade company (and carts of course - they are the suppliers for Dollar Shave Club) that is actually adding brands.

Sticking with my Rule setup tonight with the 30 DC LE brush and the Fat. Great lather and SWMBO decided to watch me shave tonight. Since I wasn't using a pain stick she was able to stay calm. She has tried to watch me with a stick before and usually doesn't make it past the first cheek.

Two passes and touch up as is my custom and I finished with a very nice DFS with no problems. Except - the alum is just a tad warm. The blade does seem a bit sharper than the previous two. I could sense a bit of extra "edge feel" during the second pass so that is a good indication of a somewhat sharper blade. Still no Voskhod or Feather sharp, but more than the other Dorcos. Should be fun the next two nights to turn up the razor and see where it goes.

My one day weekend is upon me. I'm ready for it. Job interview went well this morning and, as I suspected, the truth behind the job wasn't quite as unbelievably wonderful as the head-hunter made it out to be. Still a nice job so I'll be comparing some things, namely commission plans, over the next couple of days to see if I may want to jump aboard. I figure since they want me bad enough to send the recruiter around I should at least give it that much attention. Have a great day!

Another nice shave with the OCMM. I have been enjoying it enough again that I grabbed a clog pruf off the bay last night. The IK soap has a great post shave face feel.

    Enjoy your day.

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Tuesday early morning August 15 -

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
Chinese hardwood boar reknotted with Maggards 24mm plissoft knot
Kent / MWF in wooden tub
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Astringent

I used another recently unloved brush today. The Maggards 24mm plissoft knot does a great job with The Fat. Pity the handle is such a plain piece of close-grained hardwood in such a generic shape... It just doesn't have the aesthetic appeal of Jason's maple and cypress handles or even my Alluminati aluminum one.

Then I started shaving and the Rockwell 6s on a very mild plate #3 decided that I was treating it too complacently. I grimaced incorrectly while shaving around my lips on my first pass, slacked some skin when I should have stretched it, and the Rockwell took a divot out of my left lower lip area. Got a pretty good streak of blood running while I finished the shave. And just to prove it wasn't a fluke, the razor got a small nick in my right earlobe to match the blood flow.

Both nicks settled with a couple applications of the alum. It was a good reminder though that even a "mild" and "safe" safety razor still has a sharp blade in it. Until tonight, I would have said I was beyond hurting myself with the Rockwell on plate 3...

Oh well, tomorrow is another shave.
