OCtober!!! October 29 Razor - 1918 Gillette Old Style Blade - (1) Pre-Shave - Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap from Stirling Soap - Truefitt & Hill 1805 Brush - Jayaruh #54 Post - Alum Final setup for OCtober so it's back to the old man of the collection. No, not me. The '18 Old Style will finish the month in style. I'm pairing it up with the T&H 1805. An old razor deserves an old soap maker. I added the pre-shave today and trusted the Jayaruh #54 to handle the lather. Which it did quite well once I got the water right. 1805 seems to be just a bit finicky on water and is a bit thirstier than I expect. Took me a couple of tries to get it right but we got there. Did I mention the Feather blade in the Old Style? Yep, going aggressive all the way and the shave proved why that can be a good thing. Kept my concentration firmly on angle and keeping pressure off of the razor and did two passes and a few slides on the neck. As easy as that, the baby is in the house. Alum was mostly quiet. A few hot spots where I tend to get the corner of the blade in a bit harsh with this razor but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm looking forward to two more days with this razor. It's been a fantastic month of great shaves for me, and that's something I don't often get! Yes, I know, some of that is self-inflicted, but it's always either to prove the power of technique or keep the troops entertained. Both are worthy goals. I think NOVember will be changing the quality of my shaves overall. We'll see. Have a great start to your week!
Sunday Shave: I came home to find my new Gokumyo 20k stone so I touched up some of my razors. I guess my brain is still fuzzy from the jet lag and I realized halfway through the shave I had not stroped this razor after refreshing it on the GMK 20k , the edge was nice even without stroping. Just fell short of epic shave on both smoothness and closeness, still and excellent shave. I actually didn’t shave today. I was too busy around the house. I can’t remember the last time I mowed down two days of growth. Off to choose my weapon for morning.

OCtober 30 SOTD: Razorock Plissoft Brush CO Bigelow SC Ever-Ready 1924 Stirling Unscented PSB Proraso Green AS After taking yesterday off due to feeling a bit under the weather, it was nice to get a good shave in. The 1924, courtesy of @Bama Samurai, definitely did the job. Two passes, no clean up, and no problem for DFS. A great start to my Monday. I hope everyone has a great day!
30 OCtober Back to the OC Focus Menthol Monday +2 Shave Pre-Shave: Hot Shower Brush: 28mm Faux Finest Badger, Frank Shaving(FS) Soap: C.O. Bigelow Razor: Valet VC2, Autostrop Blade: Feather FAS-10 Carbon Steel(CS), Feather Seikan (10) Strop: Amish made Post-Shave: Cold Water rinse and Oland After Shave, Avon, Pheasant Decanter Photo: Menthol Monday was another great shave from the Valet. Stropped the blade fifteen then did a three pass shave that left me with a DFS. Finished of with some Veg and stropping the blade another fifteen times for tomorrows shave. With this little test/exercise I have found that stropping a modern CS blade does indeed make an impact on the blade, at least the FAS-10 CS blades when used in a Valet Autostrop Razor. It makes the shave much smoother. It has also prolonged the usefulness life of the blade.
SOTD October 30, 2017 Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap Blade: Kai Captain Mild Razor: RazoRock Black Hawk SE Brush: Semogue boar Lather: Palmolive shave stick Post: Witch hazel, Barbasol Pacific Rush aftershave WTG, touch up Great lather from the Palmolive stick set an easy backdrop for a nice shave. The Black Hawk worked really well and was smooth and comfortable. Nice results all around. I'm impressed with this Palmolive stick and will finish out the month tomorrow with the Wilkinson stick. It's been a good month of shaves. Have a great day!
OCtober 30, 2017 Wolfman OC Ti (0.74mm) with Triad Ti Aristocrat Personna 74 (15) Wild West Brushworks 30mm Tuxedo Fine Platinum Shave Stick Fine Platinum Aftershave [ Maya and her sister Asha decided to paint pumpkins over the weekend. Given their hard work I wanted to include them in my SOTD. Today's SOTD Pic showcases Asha's work. The hardware and software worked well together for a near BBS three pass shave. A splash of Fine Platinum and I think I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Monday.
Thank you Doug. I am moving really slow this morning since I have been up most of the night with a diverticulitis flare up.
OCtober 30th Gillette Old Type w Astra (3) Sudsy Soapery Jack Frost TGN Finest Fan Thayers Proraso Blue Balm 3rd day with the OT frankenrazor and Astra. Face-lathered an excellent lather with the Sudsy Soapery. The scent is growing on me a bit. I also got much more of the menthol feel this morning, for whatever reason. 3 1/2 passes later I am much nearer to BBS than I've been the past few days with this razor. It did take the extra 1/2 pass on jawline and neck, though. Finished with the Proraso Blue, which seems to match well enough. One more day with this razor/blade combo and then I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do for NOvember. Have a great day all!
