I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Mug Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #220 synthetic brush. I used the NOTSO comb with the Bunny, V3 Adjustable razor by @twhite and Personna blade and found the correct angle right away. Two passes and I was baby bottom smooth. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

It has been a while since I have used this razor, and it performed flawlessly. It was super smooth with no irritation at all.

Tonight's shave was with an old Philadelphia made razor. I had a super smooth 2 pass shave, no touch-ups, that left me BBS. Zero issues. This is one sweeet shaving razor. I like the way these old Cast steel razors feel on the face.

Razor- A.B.Shipley & Son, Philadelphia. Half Hollow Ground, Cast steel.
    Brush- Stirling Boar
    Soap- Arko/Avon Spicy
    Aftershave- Avon Deep Woods.

How is that Cremo, by Vie-Long?? I have a couple of horse hair brushes by them, and they are very floppy. The Cremo is advertised as having a firm backbone. What are your impressions?

    Back to the Basics

RAZOR: Matador Toro Mastiff Largo - gold; my MOST AGGRESSIVE DE razor.
BLADE: Dorco ST300 - I guess that I have used this blade at least 6 or 7 times. These blades hold their edge for many shaves.
    BOWL: Repurposed generic desert bowl.
PRE SHAVE: Hot water wash with Ivory Soap. Hot water rinse.
SHAVE CREAM: Kiss My Face - Cool Mint - bowl lather.
BRUSH: SheaMoisture Ultimate Shave Brush - black badger knot.
POST SHAVE: Clubman Jumbo Styptic Pencil.
AFTER SHAVE: Gillette After Shave Gel
    BALM: NOPE
    Matador-SheaMoisture_Kiss_My_Face.jpg
Yesterday, I used a very mild cartridge razor - today, back to a more traditional and certainly more aggressive tool.
Achieved an excellent 2+ pass BBS, but got 2 minor weepers (above the lip & under the chin). Carelessly applied too much pressure. Muscle memory?

I don't remember when I last used the KMF Cool Mint. It is nice and provides excellent lather, but I like the Pacific Shave Company spearmint better.
Felt like going home using a DE today, but I may go back to the cartridge tomorrow.
I am trying to see how many good shaves I can get out of a 6 blade Pace/Dorco cartridge.
Plus, I have some more canned shave creams to play with.

Well, understand the extend of my knowledge and experience with horse hair brushes is today's use of this Cremo brush. I've never owned, nor used a horse hair brush before. The brush was functional, and I liked it, but it's floppy. I don't know if it's "very floppy," as in your experience. That said, I liked the brush, but it's soft and I'll probably use it with creams more often than hard soaps.

How's that for an indirect, bureaucratic response? :)

It's time. Time to turn this razor to setting "me". Wide open at 6 and this thing looks like you could debark a log with it. Or slice cheese. Nothing to fear but fear itself (and major scarring but the chicks do dig that) so time to shave. Got my weekly head shave out of the way first, trimmed my goatee and looking good.

I chose the high voltage mutton tonight. On top of the mentholated pre-shave soap it really gives you a great scent. I'm thinking if I ever need to shave in the morning this may be the right soap. Can't imagine being sleepy after having this on my face. Really great feel and the lather is slick as can be. The pro-handle style Stirling synthetic brush had no problems loading enough lather for me to share with the group.

One of the main differences in gaps this size is you are allowed a lot more freedom in choosing an angle over a less aggressive razor. I tried a couple of different angles on the first strokes and decided to keep it where it's been all week in my hand. Pretty much riding the cap on a traditional razor. That basically aligns the top cap and the guard on this one to let the blade go right through the butter zone. The German Wilkie was smooth....I mean smooth. Nice audible feedback on the first pass, less on the second, and by the time I did touch ups I wasn't hearing anything. But I was feeling an incredibly smooth BBS. No blood, no discomfort and the alum was silent. That was fun! Incredible result and feel to get there. I'm thinking I may actually prefer this razor wide open. Yes, you have to concentrate a bit more to stay on angle to avoid any problems, but hold it steady and keep it light and the result is awesome.

I think I'm going to play around with settings. Back down to 4 and come up in 1/2 increments this time to get the feel of what really is the best setting. I don't think I want any less than 4 though. Below that and the feel just isn't the same for me.
