    SOTD Saturday 11/11/2017 - VETERANS DAY U.S.A.
RAZOR: Sabi 3 Piece Extra Heavyweight - Gold tone (4 inch handle, 4 ounces)- this razor remains my GO TO DE razor.
BLADE: Dorco Platinum ST-300 - probably 6 or 7 shaves on this blade.
PREP: hot water shower with Zest soap- followed by application of bloom water from Hybrid Shave Soap
PRE SHAVE: - Tri Coastal Design White Birch & Tobacco Shave Butter.
BRUSH: VDH Boar - this is the classic boar brush from the Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set
    MUG: Repurposed coffee/soup mug
SOAP: Hybrid (blended) Col. Conk Bay Rum + VDH Luxury Shave Soap- face lather
    POST SHAVE: Hot water rinse
    AFTER SHAVE: British Sterling H.I.M.
    BALM: British Sterling H.I.M.
    SABI_ExtraHeavyWeight_VDH_Boar_British_Sterling.jpg
Took the time for a proper shave today with some of my favorite products.
The Gold Sabi Heavyweight remains my favorite DE. I really enjoy the longer handle and the substantial weight of this razor. Very smooth.
The Shave Soap is a wonderful combination of Col. Conk and VDH yielding the best of both products.
Achieved a wonderful 3-pass BBS shave with no touchups needed. Took my time and focused on the shave for about 20 minutes of enjoyment.
I even cleaned the razor after the shave, took out the blade and hand stropped it with Bevel Shave Oil.

Had to break out a new VDH Boar brush. My last one started really shedding after 7 years of hard use. This new one shed 6 hairs today.
It did have a little musky scent to it, but I don't shampoo new brushes. Just put them to use straight out of the box. The Bay Rum soap deodorized well.

I will probably go back to my cartridge razor distraction tomorrow, but today - Veteran's Day, was a nice oasis from the madness.
    God Bless.

    Clear Choice
I went with Van Yulay Clarity today because I love the scent of Ylang-ylang and it helps a bit with my rosacea. The lather was incredibly thick - I should have added a little more water, honestly, and the performance was stellar. Three easy passes with the Rockwell and I finished up with Chatillon Lux YRP toner for the winter day.
    Prep: PAA Cube
    Soap: Van Yulay Clarity
    Brush: Brothers Bristles Silver Surfer
    Razor: Rockwell 6sR6
    Blade: voskhod
    AS: Chatillon Lux YRP Toner

Shave from it is fantastic but aggressive and will take several shaves to get familar. I'm still testing various blades in it too with the hope of finding one that works best in it. So far the BiC Chrome-Platinum has done the best job, but I think it could be possible for a blade to be a smidge better. I'm going to test the Wilkinson Sword blade on the next blade change (I always remove the blade and dry the razor then put the blade back in after everything is fully cleaned and dried.)

I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Musgo Real Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #220 synthetic brush. I did two passes with the Gem 1911 Lather Catcher with an Original Gem Cutlery SE and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

This was my shave for both Friday and Saturday. I love me some Arko. I am now 14 shaves on this blade and it still is giving a smooth shave. Not the closest shave but a DFS all the same. Finished up with some Avon Windjammer AS. I stropped the blade fifteen times before and another ten times after each shave.
