Very, very nice Jason! I love the gear today. The antique Colgate stick tube is awesome, and the brush is beautiful! It goes without saying, the Gillette Techs are great razors - and yours appears to be in excellent condition.

Retro Future product selection today. After seeing @Tim Spencer 's experiment with Indian Old Spice cream I'm thinking this is a way to get authentic OS scent in a lather short of paying big bucks for vintage soap. So I set out to finish off a sample of Retro Spice in my old Hull Pottery mug. Heated up my make-shift scuttle and soused the remains in the mug, carefully beat it like a 60+ year old mule that I'd like to get more use from with a heavy handled brush. Still had a lump of soap clinging to the bottom of the cup, so I squeezed out the loaded and went back for more. Ended up with 5 passes of great slick lather in my bowl & still have a lump of soap in the mug. (No score in Adam's @Drygulch Use It Up Challenge - I'm not competing.) Since I did vote in the Poll; Vintage & Modern; DE & SE - This shave confirms the M/SE radio button click. Fuzzy @wchnu mentioned / posted his shaves with Tom @twhite 's The Bunny in a recent and possibly still ongoing Pass Around. If you haven't tried it yet, get on across the street and sign up. This marvel of home built prototype engineering gives one of the closest SE shaves around. Last I read Tom had looked into mass producing the unit, but the cost was prohibitive. So three + passed later I'm smooth as can be. No errors because I've learned to respect The Bunny. And smelling good from a near matching soap & AS combo.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

I think that this is foreshadowing for the 30DC St. Louis meet up...
Bummer about the shedding Marvy, Dan. At least there are many other brushes out there!
I find it increasingly rarer that shaving items in antique store are priced ‘fairly’. Either the merchant has looked up the item on Ebay and thinks they can just slap an outrageous ‘buy it now’ price on, or they have no idea what they have and put a ridiculously low price on. I’ve had lots of great razors I paid $10 or less for that I would have gladly paid a few more quid for.
Stunning Wolfman and a great looking handle in a great, classic style, Mark.
Love the black background, Clint. Super cool. Are you going to repurpose that Nuavia bowl with a puck of Fine or something when it is done?
You are posting some super nice photos lately, Bruce! Trumper’s seems to be one of those makers whose creams get consistently better comments than the soaps do.
Great photo and write up, Rick. We could have a healthy debate on here ranking the Old Spice dupes, I bet.

You are killing it with the pics! Do you have a box you are shooting in?

Allow me to throw in a shameless plug for my favorite soap:

Very powerful scent, super slick, and the matching aftershave has become my go to, everyday favorite.

Thank you, Clint. I was hoping to win the one that was in the December raffle, and gave out a ‘dang’ when a winner chose it. Fuzzy responded that he had one and pif’ed it to me. Very generous.

Thank you Jason. The photo was taken on our black computer desk. Yes I will repurpose the container for either Fine or Mystic Water shaves soaps. I am holding out hopes that Nuàvia will eventually offer refills for the soap as well.

The generosity of TSD members is really amazing.

Hi all! New to the forum, and to DE shaving (about 3 weeks in). Since receiving my razor and 'The Bluebeards Revenge' starter kit, I've been pursuing a BBS shave by hacking away at my face - blindly following the 3 pass shave mantra without paying any heed to the grain of my face. As a result I have had some pretty sore skin, and a whole host of nicks and irritation.

I have taken the time (today) to my map my beard growth, and will be shaving doing only 2x WTG passes for the next 30 days. With any luck this will help me to get a more comfortable shave, and allow me to gain a little more proficiency as far as my technique is concerned.

After my first 2x WTG shave, my face is thanking me. It's not a super 'close' shave, but it looks clean, and my face isn't hurting!

Welcome aboard James. I have two suggestions to start:

Read up on this thread here:

    http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/3pc-de-aggressive-razor-fundamentals-riding-the-cap.51048/

If you will follow that concept it will help reduce irritation and improve results.

The second piece of advice is to work on the technique without concern for results. Doing this will ingrain the technique into your muscle memory and the results will soon follow. Just keep everything constant with the hardware and software. Minimizing changes speeds up the process. Stick with the program and you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.

BAM! That's how you get your Technique to trump tools. Congratulations on finding the 30 Day thread. I'm going to guess you've lurked here at TSD a bit. Welcome to The 30 Day Crew!

    I'll toss in another suggestion.

Take your time. Even if you want to get the lather off of your face before it dries, don't panic. Just rewet the brush slightly and refresh the lather. Pick your angle and move slowly. Speed comes with practice. Once my face is lathered, I'm generally done with two passes in less than two minutes. (including the second lather)

Welcome to the crew. Stay patient, stay consistent, and pretty soon you’ll be getting great shaves along with everyone else. I know it is hard to believe, but shaving can actually be fun.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Welcome aboard! Great to have you join our band of merry shavers. You'll find that after 30 days of consistent work you will be getting better shaves than you ever thought possible. Questions? Ask away. Somebody in here knows the answer and we're all happy to help out. Watch out for those enablers though.....they'll have you buried in new soaps and other cool stuff if you let them. Notice I say "them" because I, for one, would never enable anyone. :innocent
