I wish I could have spent more time in Golden while there this summer...maybe another visit could be in the works sometime. It's a lovely state-spent part of man summers in Estes Park. Did Longs Peak twice, but I'm getting too old for a third try.

 

Jim @jluc , You asked at lunch what my unicorn razor was. This is it, The Darwin Deluxe:

They were made out of cobalt steel starting in the late 1930's . I have not seen one go for less then $500 on ebay and usually they go for much more then that.

Another glorious DFS achieved with a 2 pass shave + touch up. I'm not sure all of the ingredients in Dr. Jon's agree with my skin - I do get a bit of a burning sensation from it (and some redness on my cheeks). It does, however, lather beautifully and provide incredible slickness.

First, thanks for the compliment.
Second, I prefer the Valobra because of the soap base. It is essentially the same as the Tallow AoS and everyone who has tried those, will agree, they are amazing. Rich, fatty, shiny, slick, and far more moisturizing and protective than the MdC. The scents are both good, but the Valobra Fougère is a powerhouse. Indeed it may be too strong for some. Not for me. Valobra over MdC HANDS DOWN.
Third, Brut has gone through some serious formula changes, especially when you compare the grocery/pharmacy bottles. The Original was made in France by Fabergé. So, in essence, its history is very similar to Old Spice. Over the years, the ingredients have been "cheapened" with the result being a mere shadow of the original. I love Brut. I do have a backup bottle and I highly recommend it for those willing to shell out a few extra bucks. It's still cheaper than Creed.

Edit: I thought about what I said above that the Valobra is the same base as the Tallow AoS; what I should have said was that Valobra MANUFACTURED the Tallow AoS soaps. Whether or not they are the same base I really do not know. Probably not.

Thanks Andrew. I don't mind the price so much if the soap is triple milled or cured long enough to last. However, many artisan soaps are soft and I feel like I am buying a good bit of water as well.

It will be sitting on the shelf right beside my NIB Shulton Christmas gift set of soap, aftershave and cologne that will be priced to move quickly at $6.50 and a minty Rubberset 400 with original boar in pristine shape for $4.75. Of course, all prices will be in Canadian dollars as well...

 

Does Valobra make the Czech & Speake soap as well?

So, if I ever come across a vintage Brut bottle, the Original formula will be in bottles that say 'made in France' only? Is any made in USA or made in Canada bottle automatically the cheap, modernized formula?
I'm going to place a Connaught order in the next several months for blades etc, and see that they have Valobra for a decent price. The Fougere may hit my bin...

Edit- FYI, just started a basic internet search and apparently there is a racehorse named 'Vintage Brut'

Thanks Jason. It is good to be home. We took our time driving back, took plenty of breaks, and even took turns driving. I'm not supposed to ride over two hours without stopping and moving. I thought that hogwash advice about preventing blod clots didn't apply to someone like me...until it did. That really made a difference in our overall alertness and even how we felt the day after we arrived home. It was quite enjoyable...at least as enjoyable as a 600+ mile drive can be. In all my working years, I've been programmed to hurry home after a vacation so that I can get back to work. Now, we have to remind ourselves that we're not as pressed for time.

Today was filled with errands and catch up activities. Our home construction is progressing well. Plumbers, HVAC installers, and bricklayers are up next.
